The Bottom Line: I would recommend this monitor to anyone looking to purchase a Dell system.

The company I work for recently started replacing some of the older PC's in our Accounting department and I am responsible for setting up all the workstations on our network. My boss decided to go with the Dell Optiplex GX-260 Workstations and standard CRT type monitors.

The model of the monitors that I setup were the Dell E772p Color CRT Monitor and boy was I impressed with this monitor.

The monitor

The Dell E772p Color Monitor is a 17" monitor with a 16.0" viewable screen. It has a .27mm dot pitch resolution and a great picture. One of the first things I noticed was it's unique shape and color. Instead of the traditional boxy shape that I have grown accustomed to seeing, the Dell E772p has a much slimmer designed case. The front of the monitor is just like most CRT type monitors and just behind the bezel of the monitor is where the similarities end. Unlike most typical monitors that have a box shaped case the covers the electronic components and the end of the picture tube, the E772p has a sleek and rounded cover that is shaped more like the picture tube. It has a special anti-glare and anti-static coating to enhance the picture viewing quality. It has three resolution settings which selected through your video software or through Windows. The four different settings are; 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024. With multiple resolution setting you are able to change the setting to match the requirements of your specific software.

Picture Quality

I am familiar with the quality of Dell brand monitors since I have used them in the past, but this monitor was the best so far. The colors are very vibrant and the text very clear.

Installation

Installation was a snap, all I had to do was connect the video cable from the back of the monitor to the video hookup on back of the Dell Optiplex GX 260 Workstation and turn on the monitor and the computer. The setup was automatically handled by Windows, it noticed I was setting up a new monitor and it selected the correct driver it needed and it set it up for me. All I had to do was make a few changes in my video settings in Windows and I was up and running. The monitor's drivers are compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.

How big is it?

This monitor is not big by today's standards and it fits well on most desktops. It measures 16.1" H x 15.7" W x 16.1" D and it weighs in at 33.5 lb.. Though it is large as compared to the LCD Flat panel monitors that are gaining popularity. But this model CRT is a bit smaller than the ViewSonic model E70 that I have on my kids PC at home.

User controls

The controls on the monitor are very easy to use, there are five buttons and a power indicator light, the buttons are located on the front of the monitor at the bottom. The indicator light uses to different colors to indicate the status of the monitor, amber to indicate that it is on but doesn't have a video signal and green to indicate it is on and receiving the video signal from your computer. With the five button's you turn the power on/off and the other four are used to control the settings for the picture. The four buttons are marked with directional arrows, down arrow, up arrow, left arrow and right arrows. The four buttons are used in conjunction with the OSD or on-screen display to change the settings.

On-screen Display Menu

The On-screen display menu allows the user to change 8 different aspects of the display;

Language - English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Italian
Zoom
Adjust Horizontal - Position and Size
Adjust Vertical - Position and Size
Adjust Shape - Pincushion, Balanced, Trapezoid, Parallelogram and Rotate Image
Adjust Color - 9300K for General Use, 6500K for Image Management, sRGB for Color Matching and User Preset, Red, Green and Blue
Reset to Factory Settings - Yes or No
Extra Control - Degauss (demagnetizing)

Everything about this Dell E772p Color CRT Monitorwas designed for ease of use, all the controls are ease to use and easy to find. Set up was a breeze and it is really easy on my eyes.

Pros

The thing I like the best about this monitor is picture quality, the colors are spectacular and there is no glare. The low price is also a definite plus. The controls are easy to find and operate, the on-screen menu makes it easy to select and adjust the settings.

Cons

So far I haven't found anything wrong with this monitor and I think Dell came up with a great monitor to pair with this workstation.

Recommendation

In conclusion, I would recommend this great monitor to everyone. It is made by a very well known company and its quality is excellent.
