I have been using the Dell P780 17” computer monitor at work for more than a year now. The level of clarity, freedom from flicker and glare as well as its solid reliability (at least so far) are quite remarkable.
I notice that the monitor is very easy on my eyes. It does not produce much eye strain and has wide range of brightness and contrast control. I am currently running it at 50% brightness and 85% contrast.
Sizes and Weight
This 17-inch monitor has a 16-inch viewable image size and weighs 41 lbs. It comes with full 1-year warranty. The dimensions are 16.4x15.9x16.5".
Front Panel
The monitor has preset color temperatures of 9300K and 5000K as well as user-refined setting. User defined setting allows you make picture more bluish (“colder”) or reddish (“warmer”).
The front panel of the monitor has a “degauss” button (the monitor degausses itself every time when powered on anyway). There are buttons to control menus that also serve as separate brightness and contrast controls.
Trinitron
The monitor proudly says “Trinitron” in the upper left corner. You can see that it is, indeed, Trinitron by the fact that there are two barely visible horizontal lines running across the screen.
Resolution
The screen is absolutely flat and the sharpness of the image is outstanding. I currently run it at 1024x768 resolution with 85 Hz refresh rate. The picture is stable with good geometry, due in part to the 0.25 mm dot pitch. The monitor supports up to 1600x1200 resolution at 60 Hz.
Compliance
The P780 is Plug and Play device and supports Energy Star and Nutek power management. It is MPR-II and TCO 99 compliant.
Rear Panel
The rear panel houses the permanently-attached monitor cable and a AC power jack, which uses a standard computer power cord. The monitor stand allows the monitor rotate and swivel quite well.
Conclusion
The Dell P780 is a very good (and inexpensive) computer monitor. It features good picture quality as well as good refresh rates at reasonable resolutions.
