Cons: Difficult navigation, horrible for image viewing/editing, nearly impossible to properly calibrate
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this monitor to most of you. There are better choices out there at similar price points (ViewSonic, Apple, etc.).
princesssuzy's Full Review: Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP 24 inch LCD Monitor
As you may know by my previous reviews, I am an artist and do lots of image viewing and editing. I need a monitor that is nothing short of fabulous when it comes to viewing images. I had a ViewSonic for the longest time and loved it. Unfortunately it gradually began losing brightness. I decided to buy a new monitor (a whole new computer system, actually) instead of having the monitor repaired. In shopping for computers, I decided on a Dell. (I will not go into detail here on what a horrible decision that was!) But the monitor came with the computer, so here I am with a 24" Dell monitor. Out of the box, the monitor seems fantastic. Its' design is attractive and it looks and feels well built. Upon turning the monitor on for the first time, I was impressed by how bright and clear the 1920x1200 image looked. Rather unfortunately, that is where my joy ended. The Dell 2408WFP is nearly impossible to calibrate properly. To do so, you will almost definitely need to buy a Spyder calibration system. Without it, good luck. After hours of navigating through the monitor's cryptic menu system (not to mention the awkward control buttons) I finally got the monitor to what I thought were decent image settings. But the contrast ratio this monitor has is too great to display images correctly. I do a lot of landscape photography. If I set this monitor to show highlights properly, the trees (darks, greens and grays) become one dark tone with next to no detail. If I set the monitor to show my shadows properly, my highlights are blown. There is simply no happy medium. That being said, I think this is an okay monitor for the casual user who does mainly word processing, internet browsing, etc. I do not think it is a good choice for photography hobbyists, gamers or graphics professionals. Incidentally, I have since switched to MAC and purchased two 23" Apple Cinema displays and LOVE them! It's true, there is just nothing as good as Apple products. Right out of the box, the Cinema display reproduced colors, shadows, highlights, etc absolutely flawlessly...even on my regrettable Dell PC!
