| bigo1120's Full Review: Dell W3707C 37 in. TV |
I just want to reiterate that at the time I purchased my Dell TV it was at a retail price of $1999 compared to the $1299 that its going for right now on www.Dell.com. Either way
I am very happy and please with the way the TV functions and I have no regrets (other then a $700 regret).
I was in the market last year for a flat screen LCD TV. I wasnt looking to get a Plasma because of the problems that come with it. I looked at different makes ranging from Sony, Hitachi, HP, and a few others. Then I remembered that Dell finally came into the market with making LCD TVs. The only place to view their TVs was at one of their kiosks. I use to work for Dell at their Kiosks and they had a really sweet 42 Plasma but I just didnt like the glare that came with it. After I left the job I heard that they came out with a 37 model. I took a look at it and pretty much fell in love with the picture quality and I was extremely impressed with the number of ports it came with. I felt it was the best bargain for the $$$ (at the time) so I went ahead and placed the order at the kiosk and was ready to receive my TV in a couple of weeks.
I had a friend come with me when it came time to pick up my TV. We had to pick it up at a UPS drop zone. The darn thing was heavy as hell (about 55lbs) so its a good thing my friend came with me. When we finally got home and he helped me take the TV upstairs I did notice a hole in the side of the box but I didnt pay too much mind to it at the time. I didnt even notice anything when I took the TV out and set up the speakers and everything. It wasnt until I turned on the TV that I noticed what I should have figured out by the box. I had the biggest crack running from one side of the TV to the other side (yeah
it sucks I know).
I have to add that Dells Customer Service was awesome when it came to issues with my TV. I contacted them and they immediately took care of the problem for me. Within 3-5 days I received my replacement TV but I had to ship back the defective one which I wasnt looking forward to do at the time. But it had to get done. Again
Dells Customer Service team was surprisingly awesome when it came to resolving my problem so BIG UPS to them!
Hooking up the TV couldnt have been any easier. I really cant see how someone can mess up in connecting their components to this TV. Everything is very self explanatory and I dont remember looking at the manual once until a couple of weeks after I set up the TV.
Now on to the TV
Design
At less then 4.5 thick the design of the TV is sleek yet at the same time simple. The one cool thing about this TV is that when friends come over they think its a 42. I just go along with them for the fun of it. The swivel stand makes it very easy to turn the TV at about 80 degree angles so I can always be looking straight at it no matter where Im sitting in the living room. I know for a fact that this TV would look every hotter if I had it mounted on the wall but I just dont want to go through the hassle of drilling holes in the wall when I know Ill be leaving my condo in the next or two. But mark my word
this TV will be mounted on the wall when I get my next place. It would look like a piece of art on the wall.
Connections
The amount of connectors this TV has is what drove me to buy it (when it was still priced at $2K). I have my Xbox 360, my mini-home theater system, and my HD cable box all connected to it and it works flawlessly. I can even connect my PC or laptop to the TV and have it display my computer programs which I think is awesome!! Everything is labeled clearly so you know where youll be connecting your hardware to. It even has a set of composite connectors and an S-Video connector on the side of the TV. This makes it easy to connect addition peripherals on the fly instead of connecting it to the back.
The TV comes with the following connectors:
1 set Coax
3 sets Composite
2 sets HDTV Component
3 sets S-Video
2 sets HDMI
1 set - VGA (analog, 15 pin D-sub)
Picture Quality
Its top notch! Dell was on point when they stated pictures look clear and sharp. The TV has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and has a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. The Genesis® Cortez Advance chipset that comes in the TV does a great job in reducing blur and there are no pixilations or jagged edges when watching sports. When I watch the New York Mets (thats right
Met Fan here) in High Definition the picture is just UNBELIEVABLE! I also enjoy the fact that since this is an LCD HDTV I dont have to worry about any burn in issues. When I play my Xbox 360 I have a tendency of putting a game on pause for a while and forgetting about it. There are also no glaring issues when its daytime outside. Watching my sports and news on this TV from any angle is no problem for me.
Oh yeah...I forgot to mention one more thing. Black is Black on this TV. It's not Grey...it's Black! I did notice that on some of the reviews some folks were saying that the Black on this TV is not really Black. To me, and a lot of other people who have come to my house, they all agree...it's Black baby!!!
Sound
The detachable speakers that came with the TV, I have to say, are very impressive! I was truly amazed at the great the sound that was being produced. I later discovered that the speakers come with SRS TruSurround XT technology. At one point I thought I didnt need the speakers that came with my home theater system (of course I would have to install the subwoofer and rear channels). I also like the design of the speakers
sleek yet simple. I sometimes play musing from my Xbox 360 using the TVs speakers and the bass quality is just outstanding. Ive had my neighbors ask me at one point if I had a subwoofer playing. I do have one but I wasnt using it at the time of the complaint.
Just TWO Things I Did Not Like About This TV:
1. I wish I would have waited just a bit longer to get it. $700 is a HUGE price difference.
2. In order to use the PIP or Split Screen feature on this TV you need to have a separate cable box. Hmm...
After a year of having this TV I still love it! My friends enjoy coming over to my place to watch movies and sports and they still think its a 42.
