Kegman's Full Review: Delphi SKYFi3 XM Radio Receiver with Car Kit
While this review is supposed to be on the equipment itself, I'm going to work in a quick plug for XM satellite radio.... YES, IT'S WORTH $9.95 A MONTH! YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK TO FM! *ahem*. Thank you.
Now, the Delphi SKYFi is a versatile Satellite Radio receiver that works with XM Satellite radio. It's portable, which means that you can enjoy it in your car, in your home, or anywhere you can carry a boombox (each of these applications requires the separate purchase of a car kit, home kit, or boombox kit, respectively). The unit comes with a remote, which is nice, but more handy in the home than anywhere else. I recommend the FM Modulator ($50) for automotive installations, as it makes for a cleaner appearance, less wires, and easier use (and does away with the need for a cassette player).
When turned on, the SKYFi's bright orange display shows the name of the song, the artist, the channel number (although XM calls them "streams" not "channels"), and the name of the, uh, channel. All this is very handy, as XM tends to play many songs and artists you've never heard of. Want to remember a song for later? Simply press the "memory" button, and the display information is saved so you can later recall the song or artist that was playing at the time. This feature holds up to 10 songs' info. "Channel" selection is done with a rotary dial, which is nice to quickly navigate through the 100+ choices available. Tuning is quick, usually taking less than a second. There's a full options menu to set as per your preferences.
Ok, it's like this. You want XM. Even if you don't realize it now, you want it. So, when you get it, look into the SKYFi, it's a decent, versatile little package.
