rodfarn's Full Review: Delphi SKYFi3 XM Radio Receiver with Car Kit
DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD.
I bought a 1 year subscription of XM radio for $6 per month, and got 170 channels crap, I stopped listening to after three months. I had canceled service with XM automated phone service cancellation. A year later, without authorization they billed my credit card $142.50 (almost three times as much). I waited an hour on the XM "service line to get a live person, an illiterate Jamaican. When I told her I wanted to cancel the service, she hung up. I called back with similar results, and couldn't get a confirmation number for canceling the service. XM insisted that they had the right to unauthorized billing of my credit card. XM radio are desperate crooks. There stock plunged from $45 to a low of $2. They presently lose $2.23 per share. They will go out of business.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT
Plan to spend an hour on the phone to get 2 minutes of help. Horrible customer support from Jamaica. They will hang up when you tell them to cancel the service, and claim you never canceled your service, and continue billing your credit card. Nice business model.
NO ADVERTISING IS A LIE.
Expect to be bombarded every third song with a short list of obnoxious advertising jingles of XM radio products. When you call XM, you get non-stop advertising for XM.
CRAP PROGRAMMING:
170 channels of crap. I ended up listing to broadcast stations because the programming was better.
RECORD AND LISTEN LATER:
If you record the programming and play it back, Tivo style and fast forward over the advertising and over 90% of the crap programming, you might find some interesting material, but you can't save it. I think it is too much work to listen to a few decent songs
KNOWN DEFECTIVE SOFTWARE
The radio has a known terminal software bug. When you record a program it keeps an index file of the songs, and never deletes the index file when you delete the programming. Eventually the index file fills and the radio locks up and crashes. I probably spent 10 hours on the phone trying to diagnose the problem with the ignorant low level tech support, before they finally let me talk to an American who spoke English, and he admitted that it was a know software bug that XM had no intension of fixing or replacing the defective radio. I have spent many hours more, following the lengthy procedure to purge the radio of all it memory and programming and then reinitializing the radio, like you had just bought it. This procedure isn't in the manual or on their web site, you will have to make extensive notes.
SUMMARY:
GET AN I POD, unless you like people steeling from you, lying to you, knowingly selling you defective products that they refuse to support or replace, and than having a major hassle getting them out of your life.
