| thebrit100's Full Review: Delta Bench Drill Press 11-950 |
I bought this drill press as i wanted a small unit that would not take up too much room in my garage workshop.
Within its limits this is a good tool, distance from chuck to table is 7 inches and to base is 10 inches, the table pivots and will swing out of the way. I found the distance between the chuck and the post to be limiting this is only approx 5 inches.
The drill will handle 1/2 drills but a forstner bit in the 1 inch range is at its limit, also speed is a factor. For approx $100 it will have its limits, it does most things i ask.
I have it set up to use as a drum sander, i recommend supporting the bottom of the drum to prevent sideloading the spindle, it does a great job of this task, speed ranges are not an issue for this application.
The construction is up to Delta's normal high standards, the unit weighs 40lbs. I didnt find the depth stop too difficult to use, sure its small and two nuts, but there is a clear gauge and plenty of space. The cover is sheet metal and a bit flimsy, its easy to change belt speeds, the cover provides good access.
Chuck is held onto shaft using a taper, you just hammer it on.
The unit comes well packaged with clear instructions, there is a liberal coating of corrosion protection, its an easy one person job to assemble, you will get dirty. In about thirty minutes you will be making holes.
good value for the price, will suit a hobbyist on a budget.
