Pros:inexpensive, safety shield protects fingers, works quickly
Cons:does not cut odd shapes, quartered pills are more of a challenge
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a pill splitter for round pills, The Deluxe Pill Splitter by Apex will do the job
I have been using the Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter for a couple of years. I bought it for my dog because he is on a lot of medications and supplements and he is a small dog so often the dose is a half or quarter pill.

How to use it the Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter
This Tablet Splitter is a rectangular box with a lid that opens and closes on a hinge. The blade is concealed in the safety shield of the plastic cover of the box. The safety shield will prevent you from cutting your fingers.
When you open the box there is a V shaped flexible plastic area where you can put a round pill and wedge it into the V. then close the lid and your pill is cut in half. Some pills are scored so it is helpful to put the scored area where your pill will end up being cut.
If you want to quarter the pill I just repeat the process by putting the rounded side of the pill have in the V shaped wedge and splitting again.
After pills are split you can slide them into a little area at the bottom that can hold a few pills. This is nice if you are splitting multiple pills.
What kind of pills it will split
The Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter works best with round pills. I have cut some very tiny pills that are maybe only 3 millimeters wide, and some very large pills that are over a half inch wide. Some larger pills may not be able to be cut with the splitter but I have not encountered one yet.
Odd shaped pills like square or oblong will be near impossible to split in the Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter but I have split a square pill without being too difficult. Clearly though round pills work the best in this tablet cutter.
How accurately does it split pills
When I first got my Apex Deluxe Pill Splitter I thought that it worked more accurately than it does now. In fact I just ordered a new one for this reason. I think as the unit is used more the blade gets a little dull and perhaps not quite as secure and on center. This is really to be expected though and I given that I use this item all the time I do not mind replacing it after a couple years of use.
Some Useful Tips
When splitting large tablets that might be a little crumbly as my dogs chewable supplements are, I just depress it enough to split the top layer and the pill will crack more in precisely in half. If I depress it fully the blade will crush the pills somewhat going all the way through so I find this works best.
If you are dividing a dose in half and preparing in half in a pill dispenser as I do, cut each pill in half and put one in the morning slot and one in the evening slot. This way if you get slightly less than perfect halves you will know that at least your daily dose is accurate.
When Quartering pills cut the pill in half and then place the rounded side of the half evenly in the V shaped wedge and then cut each half individually rather than trying to cut the two halves as one.
My final bit of advice is to buy two of the Apex Deluxe Pill Splitters so that if you notice it getting dull you will have a spare handy and you won't have to wait to get a new one.
