| Lance2000's Full Review: Denon AVR-1403 5.1 Channels Receiver |
After much searching for a Home Theatre receiver, i finally decided on this one. The others I compared were various Yamaha receivers as I had good experience with them before.
This unit has pretty much what the average person would need for home theatre.
Connections: lots!
Optical for DVD or CD
Digital Audio - for digital cable or satellite receiver.
Subwoofer - pre-out,the usual other connections, CD, VCR, EXT, AUX, you name it. More than I needed, but who knows, maybe one day. (S-Video as well.)
I have connected my Panasonic DVD(5 tray), digital cable box, and stereo VCR, thus far.
Speakers are Paradigm Cinema Series 70 - these are also amazing.
SET UP - pretty straight forward, just follow page by page. Speaker set up, component connections are all covered off in easy to understand step by step. Speaker size, distance from listening position, etc. Once set up, you can adjust each speaker, if you need a little more or less volume.
Remote is a little small, but once you figure out the layout, it's ok. It's a multibrand remote, however, not all features work as much as they should.
DVD - disc skip does not work, all other functions ok.
VCR - everything except no "record" button
Digital / Satellite - forget it - not even in list.
TV - on/off, volume - but no input selection.
Receiver - has all the 5.1 DTS, etc, the part I like is the AUTO feature, which will look at the input signal and play it back accordingly. I.E. music CD will be set up with 2 channel stereo. Dolby Digital - again selects appropriate playback.
Of course you can override and manually select what you like. Has about 5 DSP, but I do not use them. Listening to regular stereo TV is nice through 5 Channel stereo. No need to crank the volume as the sound is all around you.
I played the Matrix and X-men as soon as it was set up. WOW.
CD music is also very good, thank Paradigm for that.
Overall I think I made a good choice and am very happy with it so far.
