surferdude7's Full Review: Denon DVD-1500 5 in. DVD Player
DVD on the “Go” at an affordable price from $499 to $399 depending on where you shop. Here you have a portable DVD player with a built-in color LCD screen so you can take your DVD movies with you anywhere!
The screen is 5.8-inches and the whole unit is 6 inches wide by 7 inches in length by 2 inches thick when closed up. The unit weighs 3.3 pounds making it easy for anyone to carry.
The Audiovox DVD1500 will play Dolby 5.1 and DTS sound but you will have to connect to receiver that has the decoders built-in them to get the true sound. There are no decoders built in this system, it plays the sound back in stereo.
The life of the rechargeable battery is about 2.2 hours. If you do a lot of searching, fast forward, rewinding and so on your movie may be cut short due to using up the battery with the extra features. The Cigarette-lighter adapter is great for the car trips because you won’t run the DVD player battery down.
The LCD
The Display is a high-resolution 5.8-inch LCD screen.
The screen can be viewed in 16:9 format or the standard of 4:3 format.
The LCD also displays the playtime, chapter number and the battery life.
The Speakers
There are two speakers built-in with 24-bit/96-kHz audio.
To my surprise the sound of these two speakers are pretty good considering it is portable.
DVD Functions!
With the DVD movies you can go fast forward and fast backward at 2x, 4x and 8x the normal play mode. The smoothest play back is at 2x and there is no sound when in fast forward or reverse.
You also have slow motion with no sound at 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 of the normal play mode speed.
There is a “Parental Lock” so you can limit what others can see.
You can also choose subtitles, multi-angle, multi-story, index mark and more!

Overall
The Audiovox DVD1500 is nothing compared to a DVD player with a large screen TV and 5.1 sound system, but for portable it is pretty good. The picture quality is nice except in bright sun light and the sound is good for being portable. The features are easy to use and the overall DVD system holds up nicely while riding in a car or truck.
I didn’t try connecting it to a 5.1 receiver for sound but it did plug it into a 60-inch screen TV using the S-video connection and found a nice looking picture on the TV.
This portable DVD system is great for anyone wanting to view movies anywhere. It is great entertainment for the children while taking long trips.
My Road Trip Tip!
The Audiovox DVD1500 has only one headphone jack built-in it, go to your local Radio Shack store and purchase a Mini “Y” connector so you can use two Headphones off the same jack. This way you can listen to your car stereo and not be bothered with the sound of what the children in the back of the car are watching.
