The Bottom Line: If you are a serious bowler - buy it. Don't just think about your game on the lanes...your approach affects your game just as much.

| Bowlergrl1's Full Review: Dexter SST 5 |
Last bowling season I was bummed when my second favorite pair of bowling shoes, just a basic SST made by Dexter, began to fall apart - not a lot, but just little enough to upset me. They were less than a year old and for the money that I pay for Dexter shoes, I felt that the shoe shouldn't be falling apart. Since I wear only Dexter shoes, I contacted Dexter and they advised me to send the shoes back and they would either fix them or replace them. Low and behold, not three weeks later, I received a package from Dexter that contained a brand-new pair of ladies' SST V bowling shoes - their newest, top of the line bowling shoe. Ok, I thought, I can deal with this.
So next league night, I broke out my brand new lavender SST V's with the sparkly purple shoe laces. I also own a pair of SST IV shoes, so I am familiar with the benefit of the changeable sliding pads. New to the SST V is the changeable heel on the sliding shoe.
I changed into my new shoes and there was only one thing that I was unhappy with. The cut of the shoe is different than Dexter's other SST shoes. The shoe sits lower on your entire foot and feels like you might walk out of the shoe. The SST V is also not as padded as the beloved SST IV shoe is. Nonetheless, my feet were still happy. The shoes were soft and the slide was perfect. There is no break-in period needed for Dexter shoes because they are so soft.
Two nights later, I was at the bowling alley again - this time a different house where the approach condition is much different. I decided to experiment with the sliding pad and heel pad. Big mistake. Next shot I took, my foot stuck to the approach and I fell flat on my face. A word of caution - be careful when experimenting with these sliding pads and heel pads. You may not really need to change them even though you think you do. Instead, pull out some Easy Slide or a wire brush. A downfall to changing the sliding pad and heel pad is that if you do it too much, the velcro on the shoe tends to come apart from the shoe itself.
All in all, Dexter scored again with another attractive shoe. The shoes are a bit pricey - but it's like buying a car. The more options on the car, the more expensive it is. The SST V is a shoe with a lot of options with the changeable sliding pad and heel pad. I wouldn't think twice about purchasing them despite the price.
