| petermuir's Full Review: Diadora Elite Shoe |
I suppose a cycling is the only venue, except maybe ice climbing, where "stiff" is a positive feature in a shoe. But a road shoe needs to feel firm and stiff, and not absorb energy. This shoe does that. It grabs the pedal with a firmness that I find very reassuring. I use Look pedals, and the shoe is drilled for Look cleats as well, I assume, as other styles.
It's the second Diadora bike shoe I've owned, and it's just as good as the first pair.
I have rather wide feet, and the last pair of shoes I used, from Specialized, were too tight. I figured they'd stretch out, and after every ride in the rain they did feel better, but then they'd tighten up again. These Diadora Elites already feel perfect.
One thing Diadora does that I don't understand why every cycling shoe doesn't do, is to put a notch the back of the shoe, to relieve pressure on the achilles tendon.
The shoe comes with both laces and velcro straps. I've been using both, but I'm having a hard time seeing the point of the laces, and I may remove them.
I use the shoes mostly for commuting to work. The longest ride I've done with them so far is about 60 miles, and they felt just as good at the end as they did at the start.
One drawback I've found is that the bottoms are very slippery-- it would be nice to have some sort of rubbery surface on the sole to keep from slipping on smooth floors. I've been meaning to glue cut-out pieces of innertube to the heels, but haven't gotten around to it.
