| luvmysoldier's Full Review: Diaper Rash Ointment |
The first diaper rash ointment I used on my son was Balmex. I was less than thrilled with its performance, and shortly after I began using it, I decided it was time to find a different brand of rash ointment. I bought a tube of Gerber Diaper Rash Ointment for the simple reason that I had a $1.00 off coupon, and I thought that to be a good deal.
The first thing I noticed as I read the ingredients on the Gerber cream was that it contains 40% zinc oxide (the main active rash fighting ingredient), compared to Balmex's measly 11.3% zinc oxide. I assumed that to mean that the Gerber ointment would clear up my son's rash immediately...and I am happy to say that I assumed correctly!
My son has had very sensitive skin ever since birth. He is prone to diaper rashes; he gets them all the time. So applying rash cream is a daily ritual for us. The Balmex cream just wasn't cutting it. The rash would fade a little, but after a week or so of using the Balmex the rash would rear its ugly head full force again. With the Gerber ointment, it took only twelve hours for me to notice a very significant difference in the condition of my son's rash. His behind went from being covered in dark red bumps to only slightly pink in less than a day. Another day passed and the rash was completely gone.
The Gerber ointment is very easy to spread onto the baby's skin, and coats the affected area very well. It stays on for quite awhile - in fact, I only need to apply the Gerber rash ointment to my son's behind once per day. The Gerber cream has a slight odor, but in my opinion, smells much better than the Balmex. The only downside to the Gerber ointment is that it is hard to get off of your hands after you are finished applying it to your baby. It takes about two or three good hand scrubbings for all of the ointment to come off. But to me, the hand scrubbing is worth it, because of how effective the Gerber cream is at making my son's bottom more comfortable to sit on.
I'm so glad to have found Gerber Diaper Rash Ointment. I don't know how we would manage without it.
