It seems like a rite of passage.   You buy a shiny new cell phone and you are instantly presented with a dilemma, which case should you purchase.  While this is normally an easy choice, which usually comes down to style.  With the iPhone you are presented with a different question entirely.  With AT&T and the iPhone there is no optional insurance for your iPhone and you have to pick out a case for style and more importantly function.

The Jam Jacket case for the iPhone 3G is made by DLO and one of dozens of cases on the market.  It is priced about average for a silicone type case.  It is available from many different retailers, so make sure to shop around to get a good deal.

The Jam Jacket comes packaged with a case and three screen protectors.  The case is made of a "lint-free" material and features little nubs on the side as well as extra padding in the corners.  The padding in the corners are actually a really nice design because they add extra cushion to the most sensitive places of the iPhone. 

The nubs add a little extra grip to your iPhone which could save you if wearing gloves or if you are clumsy. 

I will admit it; the "lint-free" material was a big selling point for me because I keep my iPhone in my pocket.  I previously have had a silicone case on an iPod and it was a lint magnet.  With the Jam Jacket I had high hopes that I would avoid the dreaded lint speckle.  Sadly, the Jam Jacket attracts less lint but it still looks like it has been doused with fine salt. 

The Jam Jacket came with three screen protectors.  In my package I did not receive instructions for the screen protector installation.  I have put screen protectors on before in the past so I was able to use the screen protectors without instructions. 

Installation of the screen protectors is pretty straight forward and took a few minutes.  Just make sure that you clean your screen with a microfiber cloth before applying the screen protector.  Any little spec of dust that you leave will turn into a huge bubble. 

Also, another hint is to use a business card or credit card to smooth out the screen protector as it is applied.  This will prevent any trapped air from creating a bubble.

The screen protector seems to be about average quality.

Two important things to note, the case, with the thick padding in the corners, restricts access to the silent switch.  You basically have three options: stick an object (pen, toothpick, etc) in the hole to flip the switch, you can peel back the case a bit and flip the switch, or finally you can cut out a bit more of the material and give yourself more access room.  I'm currently doing the second option but will soon be doing the third.

Finally, the bottom opening for the speakers and the dock connector is huge!  This is a big selling point for me because it allows for the connection of an iTrip without having to remove the case.

Overall it's a good case and with the three screen protectors it becomes a great value.
