Just recently I picked up a bottle of Dimetapp Cold and Cough Elixir on the suggestion of a friend. She had said that it knocks your child on their butt, calms their cold symptoms and helps them get the rest they need ( and the rest I need for that matter). In the past I had used regular motrin or tylenol for most cold symptoms for my children. I had also tried regular dimetapp and tylenol cold and flu infant drops. I really hadn't seen much improvement of my children's cold symptoms, although the anagelesics did help with minor aches and pains and fevers.
My son woke up a few nights ago with an extremely dry cough and a slight rattling in his chest. The next morning I rushed him into the doctor and he was prognosed with "Whooping cough" His prescription? There was none, just wait it out and continue to give him tylenol. Oh the joys of military doctors.... that is another epinion in itself.
Well, I decided I would give my son the dimetapp after a friend of mine heard his cough and suggested it. I noticed within hours of him taking this medication that his cough was starting to break up and become more productive. One teaspoon full at bedtime and he has slept completely through the night for the past three nights. He seems to be on the road to recovery and I think the dimetapp played an important role in his starting to feel better. I think it did exactly what my friend said it would do. It eased his symptoms and helped him have a restful nights sleep and it also helped to make the dry cough he had a more productive cough. Had I not used this product I think that he would probably be having more problems and possibly more symptoms from his dry cough, possibly a sore throat and ultimately it could have progressed into yet another ear infection. From now on I will always keep a bottle of dimetapp cold and cough on hand. I highly recommend it and also other dimetapp products.
