| Rosalyce's Full Review: Dimetapp DM Cold & Cough Elixir |
There is no place that I could find to place a review about the Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops. Since this is the place for Dimetapp Cold and Cough medicine, and this review is about a medicine for the cough due to a cold, and it is a Dimetapp product, I am hoping it is alright to place this review here.
If you have a small child or a child who does not like to take liquid cough medicine you might want to check out these sore throat pops. They are pops on a stick and in the shape of a bear. If you are concerned about a younger child holding a cough drop or lozenge in their mouth and swallowing it, or having it get caught in their throat, then these pops will put your mind at ease. The pop is about 4 inches long with the bear being about 1 1/2 inches long and an inch wide and with a thickness of 1/4 inch.
The active ingredient in these pops is Pectin in a 19 mg. strength. Pectin is an oral demulcent, a medicine or ointment that soothes irritated mucous membrane. The inactive ingredients are Citric Acid, Corn Syrup, Flavors, FD&C Blue 1, FD&C Red 40, Methylparaben, Povidone, Propylparaben, Sodium Benzoate, Sucrose and Water.
The suggested use for these pops are for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with a sore mouth or sore throat.
I bought these for my grandchildren to have when they are here should they have a cough due to a cold. They think that they are okay for awhile, but more times than not they discard it before they are finished with it. I don't know if this is because they want to get up and play or if they don't like the taste. They tell me it taste good but, I sampled these to see what the flavor was like, I did not like it.
I did noticed that they do get relief from the cough, even when they discarded it before it was finished. I think this pop is a little too big and last too long for them. My grandchildren are under the age of 7 so maybe an older child would not think they were too big.
When I bought these pops, there was only one flavor and that was grape. If they would come up with a couple more flavors such as cherry or orange maybe the kids would like those flavors better, or at least have a choice more to their liking.
Directions suggest that they be given to children 2 years and older. They should allow them to dissolve slowly in the mouth and repeat as necessary or as directed by a dentist or doctor. Do not use for more than 2 days and if sore throat is severe, last more than two days, is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, nausea or vomiting you should stop it's use and talk to your doctor.
They are packaged 10 pops to a package and they run around $1.59 per bag. There is a clearly printed expiration date on the back of the package.
If you do decide to purchase this product, please make sure your child is quiet while using and not up running around, since there is a danger of an injury to the mouth if they should fall with it in their mouth. And remember, as with any medicine please keep this out of reach of children.
