Twenty years ago, my pediatrician prescribed Dimetapp for my two young children, when they got colds. At that time you could only purchase Dimetapp through a doctors prescription. Now you can buy it at virtually any grocery or drug store.
This is the time to think about stocking up on your cold medicines for the cooler weather which will be here in a few months. If your childs pediatrician has approved Dimetapp for your child, it is a great time to stock up. There is even a DM formula that works for coughs with colds. Please be sure that you check with a doctor to make sure your child can use the medication. Not all children can take Dimetapp.
My kids have always liked the taste of Dimetapp in the sweet grape flavor. I never had a problem with getting them to swallow the liquid, as I have with other brands of cold medicine. The medicine will not do any good if the child refuses to take it, and Dimetapp is tasty ! I like it too, and frequently use it when I get a cold. It works great for adults !
Dimetapp does make your child drowsy, and is best taken when the child is going to bed or too sick to run around. Dimetapp does work rather quickly when taken in the liquid form. Adults should not drive or drink alcohol if they take Dimetapp.
As with any drug or medication, please read carefully the warnings on the bottle, and if you or your child takes other medicines or has health problems, check with your doctor before taking any Dimetapp.
Remember, just because a medicine is sold over the counter, it does not mean it is right for everyone.
