| bops_mom's Full Review: Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops |
We've been really blessed that our son has never been extremely ill. He's never been sick enough to have to see a doctor for an illness. Trust me, we do realize how lucky we are. However, because he's never been really sick, when he gets the normal cold and cough he is quite pathetic and helpless. It's very sad to see and if you didn't know he was really okay your heart would break. (he does specialize in dramatics when he gets sick, just like his daddy)
A few months ago my husband and son were both sick with colds. It was late and we were out of any cold meds. I went to Walgreens to pick up something -- anything to make my two boys feel better. I knew what to get my husband and I knew what to get my son for his cold, but I wasn't sure what to get my son for his sore throat and mild cough (which you'd think was much worse than it was, due to his dramatics). Then I saw a bag of Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops and knew that these would be it. I picked up a bag and was on my way.
About the Product
I purchased a bag of 10 Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops for under $4. These are available in two flavors, Cherry and Grape. I picked up Grape (it was all they had). Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops look just like a lollipop in the shape of a bear. Since we have the grape flavor, our bears are purple. I have not had the pleasure of tasting Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops, but according to my son they are candy. So, they taste good. :o)
Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops are recommended only for children ages 2 and up (hey, adults can use these, too). Just give the kiddo one of these and have them suck on it, or to be more eloquent like Dimetapp says, "allow to dissolve slowly in the mouth". In other words, tell the kid not to chew it. This is a tough one in our house. My child wants to chomp any candy he gets and these are so much like candy that he wants to bite and chew them up. There is no limit to how many a child can or should consume in a 24 hour period, but I'd use my good judgment. These aren't candy (exactly).

Our Thoughts
Now, going by what I read on the bag before purchasing, I figured these would only do what say Ludens Sore Throat Drops do. As I hate mint and most throat/cough drops are minty, Ludens are what I use. Yes, I know. What a sissy. Ludens are basically candy with Pectin. They do soothe my throat as long as I'm sucking on one and sometimes will provide relief for a short time following that. However, overall, they don't do a whole heck of a lot.
As I stated, I have yet to try these out (and really don't plan to as I'm not a pop kind of girl), but based upon my observations of my son while using Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops as well as what he as to say about this product, it would appear that my assessment in store before purchase was correct. Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops are soothing so long as they're being used. They do help to calm the throat and quite the cough for the short period of time that they're being used (suck, suck, chomp) and sometimes the relief provided will last past this time. It doesn't last a really long time, and you don't really expect that it will.
My son happily takes Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops when he's got a cold and sore throat. They quiet his cough, they calm him down and he loves to eat them not to mention they give me a break from his dramatics. If only they lasted longer..... or rather, if only my child didn't keep chewing them up.
bops_mom's Recommendation
I recommend Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops for the child in your life (or even you) for times when they've got a sore throat. These are soothing and frankly, fun for children. What's better than getting a grape (or cherry) teddy bear sucker when you're feeling under the weather? Dimetapp's Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops will help, but it's very temporary. This is to be expected as there isn't anything in the ingredients that would give relief for a longer period of time. But please, especially for very young children - do use caution and supervise your child while they're having a Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops. If bitten, like any hard candy, these could pose a choking hazard.
Thanks for reading!
