| gsxrpilot's Full Review: Directed Electronics Valet 551R |
I have the Valet starter but I am not sure if it is the 551, 552 or is the R or T? Anyway, I have had this starter on my 2000 Jetta GLS for almost a year now and I can't imagine living without it.
The starter was a gift and was supposed to be installed on my 1996 Jetta until I bought this new one. It was purchased at Circuit City for $149.00 and due to the ignition system of the Jetta cost an extra $30 for a special part. Circuit City installed it in less than 2.5 hours and did a fantastic job. All the wiring is hidden and even the small black antenna is up and out of the way.
The key fob has two buttons which start the car and open the doors. The Valet fob works similarly to the VW fob. When the car is started the remote from VW is rendered inoperative. You MUST use the Valet to get into the car. This is hardly an inconvenience. Once in the car you must put your key in the ignition and turn the key before doing anything else in the car or else the electrical system turns off and the car is useless (until you start it manually). I view this as a great security system that is easy to use.
I start my car (with either the air or heat on depending on the weather) from distances up to 100+ yards. I can start it from around corners too. I live downtown in a major US city and I have no worries about theft once I start my car to warm it up or cool it down.
This starter is supposed to work on all automatic transmissions and some manuals. I have no complaints about it and I have recommended it to everyone I know.
