Pros:will start the car remotely
Cons:must be willing to give up factory settings and options.
The Bottom Line: This is a very basic system that will leave you wanting. Ask questions before installing. Know what your getting, because it will be less than expected.
I had the remote start installed by a professional. I was told that the only thing that would change from the factory security system would be the chip in the key would be disabled. All other factory settings would be the same. All the information I could find stated the same thing. Once the system was installed, I found out the truth.
1. Security system disabled.
2. Outside security lights disabled.
3. Horn confirmation that doors are locked disabled.
4. Panic button disabled.
Since my wife and three kids use this vehicle, security is very important. I took the vehicle back to the professional installer and now I have a car that honks when I lock and unlock the vehicle. The neighbors aren't happy. Option is to have honk all the time or not at all. Still no security system. Panic button works however, all you need to do is push the button on the remote to turn off. Factory setting you need to put the key in the ignition (better if you are being mugged).
Also now when I unlock the vehicle all the doors will open, I was told I can have all doors open or only the driver. The factory settings would allow me to first unlock the driver door, and if pushed again all doors unlock. Again a true safety measure.
I am now being told that I need to spend another $100 for a security system and go with the Viper system instead of the Valet.
Had Valet advertised their system better, I would never have purchased this item. Now I must spend more money to have it taken out and search for a better system, or go without.
Be warned that your car will not be the same with this system.
