Pros: Long battery life
Easy to use
Cons: Stickvac capacities
Odd charging area
After using a rechargeable cordless with handheld capabilities at work, I had purchased a cheap one for my new non-carpeted apartment. That one broke within an hour - leaving me with no vacuum for a few days.
I purchased the Dirt Devil SD20000 Easter Weekend just hours before company arrived since my apartment had dust monsters of cat fur flying all over it. I wasn't expecting much since it was less than $100 but was I ever surprised!
This vacuum has picked up everything from cat fur balls to spilled flour to cat litter. The bin seems to be able to hold almost anything - I can typically go at least 3 full vacuums of my 1bedroom apartment without having to empty the canister.
I find that I use it more as a handheld cordless than as a stick vac, the suction doesn't seem to be as powerful when it's in stick vac mode and it's faster to just do it by hand since it picks up more in a faster time frame. The handheld doesn't work so well on area rugs however, and I find the stick vac doesn't pick up on area rugs hardly ever. i would not recommend this to anyone with many carpeted areas.
The battery life is pretty spectacular, I think I have charged it fully 3 times since acquiring it in April. The charger plugs into a wall and the pin end goes into the top of the vacuum. Again, I find it easier to charge as a handheld on a counter than as a stick vac since when the handle is attached the entry point for the pin is difficult to access.
I really appreciate the crevice tool which is built into the main vacuum part. It slides out and into the suction end meaning that you will never lose it. I have found the crevice tool very useful for cleaning out my car and getting into the smaller areas, and also for cleaning uneven floor types such as tile.
I got this vacuum on sale for $60CAD and while my expectations were for a cheaper vacuum that I would have to replace sooner rather than later, I have been extremely surprised as how well it works for me. If I move to a place with a bigger surface to vacuum or that has more carpeted areas I would look at getting something else but otherwise this is perfect. My only suggestion would be to skip the stick vac option and just get the handheld portion of this unit - you'll probably rarely use the optional handle.
