| tkuppig's Full Review: Disco Bloodbath : A Fabulous But True Tale of Murd... |
Disco Bloodbath is a book seriously worth reading. While it may not be a literary masterpiece, it holds the reader and keeps one turning the page. The success of the book is not in the author's talent, but more in the story that the author recounts. James St. James lived the same life of decadence and excess as Michael Alig and the other "clubkids" of the late 80's and early 90's and is therefore a primary source for the gory details of heroine binges and transvestite drama-queens found in this story. While it is a true murder story, I found myself laughing out loud as a turned the pages of this book. The lives of these clubbers were so frivolously exaggerated and their murder cover-up was so poorly thought out that the story quickly becomes hilarious. I found that after reading this book, I was a bit disenthused with New York nightlife and I did not find that this book glorified drug use in any way; in fact, Disco Bloodbath takes the glamour out of drug addiction.
