| rngpie's Full Review: Discovery Toys Good Catch Nubby Ball |
The Good Catch Nubby Ball is an exclusive by Discovery Toys to the best of my knowledge.
My best bud, Vic, has her own daycare and cares primarily for the tiny tots to preschool range-2-5. After a major fundraiser, she got to purchase some Discovery Toys at a considerable savings to have in her daycare.
One of her choices was the Good Catch Nubby Ball.
She chose this ball because we had both observed the difficulty of regular sized balls for the little ones to manipulate.
The tiny tots had tried playing with a regular basketball, but the weight and bounciness of the ball, made it next to impossible for them to manipulate. Even just sitting on the ground and rolling it back and forth, or just lightly bouncing it would cause the ball to roll or bounce off into never never land. Naturally, Vic and I got a lot of exercise chasing that basketball down. Finally we put it up.
Next we tried the cheap-o balls from our local dept store. These came in beautiful bright colors but were slick. While the balls were easier to manipulate in rolling they were still pretty big for bouncing and they liked to go their own way as well.
After the fundraiser, Vic splurged and bought the Nubby ball.
What Impressed Me
What I loved and the tiny tots loved is that that this ball is a mere 8" in diameter meaning it is perfect for small hands to manipulate.
Also, this ball has these little raised nubby bumps all over it. The nubs make this ball a breeze to catch even for tiny hands.
The ball is very soft and has a decent bounce to it as well. Vic's ball came in a plain teal which would work for either boys or girls, but we were hoping for a primary blue or red color.
Details
The Good Catch-Nubby Ball is sold by Discovery Toys. DT says that this ball teaches gross motor skills as well as Sensory skills.
This ball retails for $8.49, but Vic got hers for $6.89 due to a fundraiser she held which entitled her to a significant savings on her own purchases.
The Discovery Toys website is www.discoverytoys.com or you may purchase this or any other Discovery Toys product from an Discovery Toys rep.
I give this ball a 5 because of it's unique nubby grips that really help tiny tots to catch the ball.
