Disney Animation Adventure
Written: Jun 08 '06
Pros:Beautiful courtyard, fun for kids, air conditioned, no lines, go at your own pace.
Cons:Limited replay value.
The Bottom Line: A neat collection of animation exhibits, but once you’ve seen it you really don’t need to go again.
The queue line.
There is no queue line to get in and view the courtyard.
For the individual activities
Sorcerers workshop is set up for you to just walk through. The Drawn to Animation presentation is repeated approximately every 20 minutes and there is virtually no line and plenty of seats. The Turtle talk line is just a big open room where you wait until the next showing and I recommend getting there 10 minutes before it starts since it is still fairly new. The art of animation is open so you can go in and out at your leisure.
So basically the only one you should be worried about is Turtle Talk.
The courtyard
This is the coolest part of the whole exhibit. Once you enter you notice a whole bunch of screen surrounding the entire room. On each screen you can have moving animation, static animation, or concept art (hand drawn pictures.) They cycle through songs and pictures from Disney films. It is neat and mesmerizing. If you need to lay down a rest, or get out of the summer heat, this is the place I recommend doing that.

Drawn to Animation
This is a short (about 15 minutes) where an actor and an animated character perform for you. It is very scripted and does not change from what I can tell. It talks about how the feature animated character was envisioned, transformed, and finalized in the completed film. Last time I was there it features the dragon from Mulon.

Sorcerers workshop
Out of the 4 subparts, this is the best one. You first enter a room with wheels on pedestals or fixed to the wall. In these wheels are art drawn. If you spin these you see the hand drawn cells form into a short animation clip. If you are so inclined you can create an animation of your own. Its fun for older children to do this.
The next room is a personality profile computer program. You answer a series of questions and in the end of the program it tells you which Disney character is most like you.
The third room is a series of sound rooms (not sound proof). There are actually short queue lines in front of each of these rooms. You pick a Disney scene and you provide the voice to the characters you have chosen. It is pretty fun, especially when you do different voices (Kermit, Bullwinkle, Animal, etc. You get the idea.)
The nice thing about this area is you move at your own pace, and it is also air conditioned.

The art of animation screening room.
Just a bunch of Disney artwork. Nothing special about the room. Every once in a while they will have a character in this room signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Turtle Talk
If you have seen this once then youve seen it a million times. Ive seen it three times and its just the same routine over and over again. But it is a really neat idea. You have a computer created ocean tank where Crush pops on and interacts with the guests. Yep, a computer animated turtle that talks, movies, and plays games in real time. Obviously someone is doing the voice in a room and is viewing the audience via cameras located in the front of the room. The audience can ask Crush questions and sometimes Crush will ask his own question to the bipeds in the room. The show is around 15-20 minutes and seems rushed to me.
2 stars, only 2 due to limited replay value and short show.
Animation screening room
Turtle talk is now in this room. It used to be a video on Walt Disneys life and vision. Im sure, if you cared, you can probably find this video in one of the stores.
Height limit.
No height limit or age limit. I think the ideal ages would be 7 to 13 for these exhibits, but that doesnt mean adults and teenagers wont like it.
