Disney Buzz Chunky Action Figure is a recent addition to our house, brought in by my mother when she agreed with me that it was absolutely pathetic that my 20-month-old son was walking around the house with a tube of Toy Story toothpaste chanting "Buzz, Buzz."
Needless to say, Buster is in love with his new "Buzz" and now that I think of it, I probably need to hike myself to the Disney Store to get at least one more in case this one ever gets lost.
All About Buzz
Disney Buzz Chunky Action Figure is fairly simple as action figures go. This Buzz is standard-issue Buzz with all the usual Buzz look to him. He comes with the standard attached space helmet, that of course, lifts up in front so Buzz can determine whether our air is safe for humans or not.
In addition, this Buzz has two interchangeable backpacks: one is the standard Buzz pack, and the second is a rocket-powered pack.
Please hold that thought... apparently Mommy absconding with Buzz during nap was not a good idea.
Okay, the rest I'll have to do from memory, since apparently even when sleeping, I can't have Buzz for a half hour to totally examine him.
The two packs clip in with two side clips that are fairly easy for adults to change out, but too difficult for little hands. The rocket pack requires two button batteries (included), and has wings that can be positioned out to the side or tucked back (via swivel action). Press the eagle on the pack, and the rocket pack will make noise, and the rocket boosters light up red. This button is being pushed CONSTANTLY, so it will be a good test of how long batteries will last. I promise I'll update and let you know when they finally run out.
Buzz is partially articulated. His legs swivel and he can sit, but the knees do not bed. His arms move at the shoulders and elbow so that he can be positioned in his rocket booster. Bend his arms at the elbow, fit his hands on to the handgrips, and in he goes.
So I Gather He's Popular, But Tell Us the Whole Story
Buzz has been my son's constant companion since he got into our house. As you can tell, he can't be out of my son's reach for even a minute, or the chant of "Buzz! Buzz!" begins again. Buzz goes absolutely everywhere with us, and his chunky size and lack of small pieces makes him ideal for a little guy who just isn't ready for some of the more grown-up Buzz toys.
Buzz's basic pack has already been lost, for it holds absolutely no interest for my son, as it makes no noise and does not light up.
The ONLY quibble I have about this toy is that Buzz's torso is hollow, I suppose to make it easier for the packs to click into his back. Of course, if Buzz is without a pack and placed in say, a sandbox or a bean tub, guess what happens? Things get stuck in Buzz's torso. Our Buzz now has a permanent rattle from beans that I can't retrieve.
However, such a small quibble is nothing compared to the joy this brings my son, who now thinks he's just like the bigger kids with their Rescue Heroes and Spiderman action figures.
