debredz2r's Full Review: Disney DTD1363-CAR 13 inch TV/DVD Combo TV
A very common complaint I've seen on this TV is it shuts itself off after turning it on: Ours started shutting itself off on Sunday, 2 1/2 months after buying it used. I took it to the TV repair on Monday, I picked it up today (Wed) and the parts that needed replacing were 1- regulator, 1- transistor, 2- 50 volt filters, and 1- resistor. The cost of the repair was $98.00 minus a $10 off coupon so $88.00 final cost. I'm sure the prices vary from place to place. For us, it was worth it to get fixed. I asked the repair man about how many of these TVs they have gotten in for repair. He said they have gotten quite a few of the Cars TVs in for repair, and after repair, they have not had them return to be re- repaired.
OK, Now for my review:
I just bought this TV today (8/9/09) from Craigslist for $70. It was purchased for my 4 year old son to go in his Cars bedroom. He loves it!
The manufacture date of our TV is May 2006. So at the time of this writing our set is 3 years old, and we bought it second hand.
Our TV is the one with a big racing tire on each side, not the 4 tires as they are now. It also has a racing spoiler on the back and the Lightning McQueen sticker graphics on top, rear, sides and front. It looks like the new ones, but the quality of ours is more superior to the new ones in my opinion. I looked a a new Cars TV today at a store, and was shocked at how cheap the case to the TV is made now. It felt so flimsy and very thin plastic. I pushed the plastic casing on the side of the set and it pushed in easily, not very sturdy like our model.
I found an owners manual with remote on eBay since ours did not come with a manual. Now, we have an extra remote as well. A good thing since my son has been playing with and dropping his remote. When he drops it, it jars apart sometimes and I have to snap it back together. I have read that universal remotes don't work with this TV. I was trying to find a sleep timer, but this TV does not have one, so that is a downside. I really like that function on my kids TVs.
The remote is super cool, it looks like a car keyfob (a little bigger but kid sized for a TV remote) and has a bunch of functions on it as follows: TV/AV/DVD, DVD Menu, Language, Eject, the number keypad, Display, CC/Subtitles, Set Up, Return (last channel), Menu, Mute, Channel Up/Down, Ok, Volume Up/Down, arrows up/down/left/right it also has the DVD functions, forward/ff, play/pause, stop, reverse. It takes 2 AAA batteries.
The screen saver works in DVD mode. It is Lightnings eyes and they bounce slowly from the 4 corners of the screen, looks real cute. The DVD door is Lightning's mouth. There is a "hood" that hides the TV controls: TV/DVD, power, menu, channel, volume, DVD controls. When you change the channel, Lightning McQueen is in the corner by the number. When you change the volume, he is ahead of the volume line...so very cute graphics on screen. I enjoy sitting in his room and watching the TV with him, it's so cute! My son knows what button on his remote to push to power it on/off, and to open/close the DVD. The picture is really nice and clear, and the sound is very good too. When the DVD plays, the DVD motor is quiet and good clear quality. My son loves this TV, and I am glad I got it repaired for him. The AV outputs on the front of the TV are handy for when he plays his V-Motion game system, and the AV outputs in the back work out for the VCR we have hooked up to the TV as well so he can watch the tapes he recently discovered that we have.
Front and rear AV jacks for hooking up video games and/or karaoke players Stereo sound and headphone jack Also plays CDs Remote control included Mcque...More at Amazon Marketplace
