Fisher Price recently came out with a new holiday version of the Minnie Huglight. Instead of the pink and purple pajamas and bow that the original wears, this Minnie is all ready for the holiday season. She wears a bug red bow and red/green pajamas with white ruffles. Also, in the new version, Minnie's eyes are wide open instead of half-closed as with the original. This new version is much cuter than the original and makes a great holiday present for older babies.
As a parent with a constant stress headache (LOL), one of my favorite feature of this toy is that is doesn't make any noise. These days it seems very rare to find a good toddler gift that doesn't beep or shout or scream or rev or bark... well, you get the picture! The Minnie Huglight makes a great bedtime toy, something to play with during those "quiet down" moments before bed.
Other than the outfit, this new Holiday Minnie Huglight is identical to the original. It has a soft, huggable body and a durable, plastic head. It requires two "AA" batteries which allow Minnie's cheeks to glow when she is "hugged" or squeezed around the stomach. It doesn't take much strength to make the cheeks glow, just a touch. The glow is about the brightness of a very soft night-light and actually makes for a good night-light if you have a cuddly child who will sleep with an arm draped over Minnie. However, if you have a toddler who is afraid of the dark, beware that the glow does stop when Minnie's stomach is not being touched.
This is a simple, adorable and affordable toy without many features or disadvantages. The back of Minnie's outfit is velcro, allowing easy access to the battery compartment. The batteries are placed within a plastic box and the box is screwed closed so little hands can't get at them. The only improvement that I would suggest for this product is more padding around the middle of Minnie's back as the hard battery box can be felt through Minnie's body, making her a little less huggable. Otherwise, I have no complaints. My daughter is fascinated by the glowing cheeks and loves carrying around her Minnie. The head wipes easily clean and the doll is machine washable, making things a little easier on mom!
The suggested age range for this product is 6 months and older.
