When our 8 year old daughter was a baby, everything was themed in Classic Pooh. When our almost 4 year old son was a baby, everything was themed in regular Pooh. See my pattern here? After we found out we were pregnant for the third time, I really didn't want to do Winnie The Pooh again. I almost gave up hope when I couldn't find anything that I liked when here comes my husband carrying the Star Shine Mickey Mouse Mobile and Crib Set. He did really well that time because I immediately fell in love with it. It was so darn cute! We got it at Wal-Mart for about $25 at the time.
Description
There are a few pieces to put together after you take it out of the box. There is a straight plastic piece and a curved plastic piece that fit together. They are a bit of a struggle getting them snapped together but it's really sturdy once together. At the top of the curved part is a hook that you have to attach the music box. Underneath the music box is another hook that you attach another plastic piece with four parts branching in all directions. This is the piece that you attach the plush Mickey's and Pluto's.
There are 2 plush Mickey's and 2 plush Pluto's. The Pluto Plush is about 4 inches tall while the Mickey Plush is about 5 inches tall. The plush characters are made from 100% Polyester. Attached to the top of them is string that is knotted at the end. On the plastic piece that they attach to, there is a little opening and you slide the string on and they hang there from the knot resting on top of the plastic piece. The music box is circular and there was a blue sticker with a star on it with Mickey Mouse standing in front of the star.
The mobile attaches to the crib rails by placing the bottom of it between a gap in the crib bars. There is a plastic piece that is then screwed on to it from the opposite side. You just simply screw it on until it's tight. The music box plays Braham's Lullaby and will play for about 15-20 minutes at a time depending on how much you wind up the music box. The hook on the music box also makes the plush characters spin. The mobile ends up standing about 2 1/2 feet above the crib rails once it is attached. On our guy's crib, there is about 3 1/2 feet of space between his matress and the top of the mobile. It depends on how high up you have the matress positioned in the crib.
Performance/Opinion
I don't know what kind of batteries the mobile takes. It may have an internal battery in the music box - I'm not sure. The reason I say this is because we never had to put batteries in it to begin with and looking at the back of the music box, it doesn't look like there is a battery compartment. There are screws on the back of it but it doesn't look like it would house batteries. I'm afraid to open it up in case it shouldn't be opened and end up ruining it. I can say that the batteries last for quite some time though - if it even has batteries in it. Our little guy is almost 3 months old and the mobile still plays and spins just as well as the day we bought it.
He doesn't spend a whole lot of his time upstairs in his crib since he sleeps downstairs all day. There have been quite a few times we have put him in his crib when he just wanted to cry. We would wind up the music box and he would just stare at it until it stopped. It got him quiet and by the time that the mobile was done, he forgot why he was crying in the first place. The music isn't very loud and it's at the perfect level for a mobile. The plush characters move around at a slow speed so it isn't too fast for him to watch them move.
I haven't had a single one of the plush toys fall off like I used to with another mobile we had for one of our other kids. Sometimes though, Mickey's hand might get caught up on the plastic support bar of the mobile but it usually lets itself go and starts going again. I love the plush Mickey's and Pluto's. They are Classic Mickey and that's what makes it all the cuter! I have never had to wash the plush characters but if you do, you should hand wash them. The age recommendations are from birth to about 5-6 months of age. The reason why is because at ages 5-6 months, your baby may be sitting up and at that time, you should remove anything like this from the crib because they could reach it and hurt themselves by pulling on it.
I haven't had too many problems with this mobile leaving marks on the crib from being attached. I move it every once in a while though so that it's in a different place when our little guy is in his crib. I have noticed a little paint chip marks once when I moved it. It wasn't too noticeable though. I imagine if I never moved it, it probably would look worse. I definitely recommend this mobile. Our little guy loves staring at Mickey and I think it has to do with the colors. I love Braham's Lullaby and it plays for a decent amount of time. The plush characters move at the right speed, it's easy to assemble and attach to the crib, and after about 3 months, it still works just as well as the day we bought it.
The Star Shine Mickey Mouse Mobile and Crib Set look a little boyish but in my opinion, I think it would work well with girls too. I guess it depends on the individual on this one though. This mobile is also a little cheaper than some other mobiles out there. It's just a simple mobile that plays music and spins but it's so darn cute! I love the Classic Mickey!
