| Staceys1's Full Review: Disney' Winnie Pooh HUNNY POT Costume - Infants |
My daughter was almost eleven months old and not quite walking yet, when she celebrated her first Halloween, but she already had shown quite a love for Winnie the Pooh. Since my son had just turned two years old, he was not completely sure what Halloween was all about I was still able to choose costumes for both of my children. That year, my son was dressed as Winnie the Pooh, and my daughter accompanied him as his Hunny Pot.
This costume was purchased by grandma at the Disney Store, and it is absolutely adorable. Ours is size 12 months and my daughter was about a month shy of that when she wore it. Since it not form-fitting, depending on your child's size, it could probably fit children from about six month to about eighteen months.
This outfit is made out of a soft, plush fabric, and the body portion and hat are padded. It resembles the honey pots that Winnie the Pooh is always after and the body is blue with the word "HUNNY" scribbled across the front in brown lettering. The arms are honey-colored yellow and the blue hat, made to resemble the top to the honey jar, is attached making it more like a hood. It is adorned with two black and yellow stuffed bumble bees with iridescent yellow wings.
Since babies are not always the easiest to dress under the best of circumstances, it is good that this costume has two zippers to help out. The zippers are located on the left and right sides of the body and unzip almost the entire length of the costume. The fact that they do not unzip all the way is good so that a curious baby playing with a zipper cannot completely remove the costume.
I always thought that this was the perfect costume for a non-mobile child, since a honey pot usually just sits on a shelf or counter anyway. The thick material and padding makes this rather bulky so that it prohibits crawling, and since the open, elasticized bottom will fall somewhere between your child's hips and knees, it makes walking for those just learning a bit difficult as well.
The Hunny Pot is a very warm costume, which is great for a cool Halloween, but when my daughter wore it, it was an extremely warm and sunny day. I was glad that we did not have matching pants for this outfit, and since she was less than a year old, she was able to just wear a onesie underneath.
The fact that the hat is attached could be a pro or a con, depending on whom you are dealing with. Generally speaking, attached hats are easier to keep track of and there is no chances of losing it. However, I know that my son would have never let me put a hood like this on his head as a toddler for one minute, let alone keep it on while Trick or Treating no matter how cute it looked. My daughter, on the other hand, always loved hats and was more than willing to keep the hood and attached hat on her head while wearing this costume.
Our Hunny Pot costume is ten years old and though it has been borrowed by a number of friends over the years, it is still in very good condition. We have purchased a number of licensed Disney costumes over the years and have been very pleased with their quality. Yes, they generally cost a bit more than other costumes, but if you want a great costume that will hold up and that can be passed down, they are worth the investment.
Every time our Disney's Winnie the Pooh Hunny Pot Costume is taken out, it gets a plethora of compliments. It is a unique costume that makes your child easily accessible, which is important since it is sized for those still in diapers. It is a great costume alone, but paired with a sibling in a Winnie the Pooh costume is simply adorable!
