Snow? Ski lifts? In Florida? Yessiree!
Blizzard Beach at Disney Land in Florida is full of tons of snow. Fake, of course. It becomes a real problem when you're standing in line, waiting and waiting for the moment when you can step an inch closer to the Toboggan ride. Sweat drips off your face, the sun bears down and the cool temperature of 95 degrees suddenly feels like 150 degrees.
Uh oh, there goes another one. A bystander breaks free of the line, runs screaming toward the snow covered hill, desperately trying to claw the cold stuff into his hands. He collapses in a heap on the floor, sobbing.
Yup, that's a big problem at Blizzard Beach. Of all the water parks that we experienced at Disney, this one had the longest lines. What a blast though, this is one fun park. The umbrella-covered ski lift holds four people for a relaxing ride to the top of the "mountain." As you approach the top, there's a spectacular view of a ski jump that blasts off straight up into the sky. Kind of makes you scratch your head for a moment, as you try to figure out whether it's real or not. The ski jump actually covers Summit Plummet, a terrifying, fun water slide that shoots you down on a 60 mph plunge. Be sure to rearrange your bathing suit when you finish riding this.
If you're the competitive type, head over to Toboggan Racers and race your old Uncle Tommy down the chutes. Heck, you can take on seven of your relatives on this one. Grab a foam toboggan and begin the Olympic trials down the slide.
Slides, slides and more slides is the theme of this park. Downhill Double Dipper is a 50 foot slope with two tube slides. At Runoff Rapids, you can shoot down in a one, two, or three person tube. At Teamboat Springs, the entire family can hop on a raft and holler together through the twisting falls.
The littlest tots can tackle Tikes' Peak, and race each other down the slides. This area is a mini version of the park, with racer slides, tube slides, body slide and a splash area.
Older kids (5 to 12) can join the Ski Patrol Training Camp and have a blast. Slide down the bungee cord slide, rappel down the T-bar drop and be a pro in no time. Hopping from iceberg to iceberg is a challenge for most kids, and it's sure to keep them occupied for more than five minutes.
Satisfy your hunger pains at Avalunch or Lottawatta Lodge with the typical vacation fare (hotdogs, hamburgers, etc.) or be adventurous and try their wraps.
When you're tired of hallucinating about cold snow, you can find yourself floating away at Melt Away Bay. Filled with bobbing waves-- it's a great place to cool off.
If you're really pooped and you want some rest and relaxation, hop on a tube and drift for a 1/2 mile down Cross Country Creek. Be sure to pick up a snow cone with ten different flavors to choose from. Nothing like sipping on flavored ice as you laze down the waterway.
Could paradise be more fun?
