Pros:Lots of fun blasting the villainous aliens, nice Buzz audio-animatronic.
Cons:Over too quickly, long waits, cramped cars
The Bottom Line: A great ride, and nice to see some Toy Story stuff in Disneyland at last!

Duration of Ride: 5 minutes

Our score: 8/10
This is an ‘omnimover’ style ride (ie the cars don’t stop moving) that takes you through a loosely plotted set of scenes based on Toy Story 2 and Buzz’s battles with his foe ‘Zurg’. Each car is modelled to look like a spaceship and has an automatic lap bar, a scoring screen and a gun. Each car can hold up to 3 people, if one of you is relatively small, but, as there are only two blasters per car, we suggest asking to ride as a two.
QUEUE AND FACADE
Lots to see if you are standing in line indoors; the highlight is a well-animated model of Buzz. Not so good outside – no shade and you are standing amidst the growing mayhem of Tomorrowland as the crowds grow. You do get a rather nice view of the Astro Orbiter though (which isn’t saying much). The building itself isn’t particularly attractive, but this does not seem to deter guests – some waits can be horrendous in the early afternoon; but no line at all when we visited at around 8.30 am so get there early is the top tip.
Cars can spin around randomly but can be controlled by the guest via the lever in the car, Roger Rabbit ride style, and this helps you aim at the targets with your ‘laser guns’, earning points as you go and helping Buzz defeat Zurg which, miraculously, he does every time! Hitting the targets gives results e.g moving figures, water squirting back at you, triggering of sound effects etc. Funny ending spoiler alert : Zurg is put back in his box and returned to ‘Al’s Toy Barn’. The whole thing lasts around 5 minutes, and you are forced to exit through a gift shop at the end, in true Disney fashion.
There’s a special car for disabled guests – just ask.
Alternative experience: No
Best time to go is early in the morning – expect 30-45 minute waits if you go any later. It’s extremely popular and is the first thing most guests do when they are admitted – good luck!
An excellent fun ride, full of features and fast moving events. Our only gripe would be that it is over quickly for a ride which generates such a long wait. Good for all age groups. Enjoy!
