ggridley's Full Review: Bruce Sterling - Distraction
Unfortunately, I'm not a cyberpunk lover - at all. If you're into William Gibson, I'm guessing that you'll probably appreciate this author's style. If, however, you find the movement and plotting of the cyberpunk genre difficult to follow (as I do), you may want to choose another book. There never seem pivot points for the plot - it just sort of slithers along, slipping sideways every now and then, but not moving forward.
I read the whole thing (I REFUSE to put a book aside once I've passed the half-way point). I kept waiting for it to get better, but I never felt it grab me. I didn't care what happened to the characters, so the plot became irrelevant. The whole thing seemed to be an attempt at edginess that resulted in an acid trip thru Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.
