jstrahan's Full Review: Bruce Sterling - Distraction
Bruce Sterling is the best science fiction writer alive today. His work, most notably in his short fiction and in his novel Holy Fire, clearly demonstrates that he understands the way the world works, and is able to express the complexity and oddity of that in the form of a science fiction novel. While Distraction, his third novel to be published following a break to work on non-fiction, is not his best (that would be Holy Fire) it is one of his most interesting. Sterling looks at the place of science and technology in our world today, how it empowers people and how it interacts with commerce to affect the face of our planet. Distraction is funny, engrossing and provocative -- every home should have one.
