I really didn't expect to like this beer, but after drinking one, I must admit that it was great! I am someone who views bitterness as an asset in a beer and despite its absence in this lager, it is still a very fine beer. The bottle is intriguing, as is the deep almost black colour. The voodoo image that this beer presents fits well with its New Orleans authenticity. If this beer was made anywhere else it'd be tacky marketing but this beer has the right to proclaim itself voodoo, if nothing else, the unique taste generated by the Dixie Brewing Company's cypress ageing techniques is proof enough of a very original beer.
The taste generated by this interesting process is a silky smooth very rich taste with strong hints of coffee. These coffee influences along with almost caramel undertones are the basis of the fascinating aroma of this great lager. This beer's looks really sum up its taste, deep, dark and very interesting. There is very little bitterness in this beer however and the flavour tends towards the sweet. Usually I dislike sweeter beer however this lager's complexity in my mind saves it. It is a very thick consistency and as I mentioned before the taste is unique, I really suggest you try this beer for yourself as try as I might the flavour is so different and distinctive that it is almost impossible to describe.
Dixie Brewing Company has created a seriously good beer with their Blackened Voodoo Lager, which is very interesting and unique. I highly recommend this too anyone who doesn't mind being a little adventurous with their beer or anyone who is a fan of the whole New Orleans Voodoo culture. For something with such fantastic appeal from the Voodoo gimmick, this is a surprisingly good drop.
