Good value for Golf and Spa, but prestige has slipped

Pros: Combination golf and spa.
Cons: 20% gratuity added on everything regardless of service. Also, going through a major renovation.
The Bottom Line: If you knew the Doral before it isn't the same now. Service and professionalism has dropped, but still good value. Just not what it use to be.

| bphop's Full Review: Marriott Doral Golf Resort and Spa |
Just recently came back from Doral this April 2002. The courses are in great shape from the best (Blue Monster) to the worst (White Course). The spa was in good shape, but the employees are hit and miss. Surprised by the lack of professionalism for a resort regarded as one of the best. Going through a major renovation so the rooms from the 800 series down are the rooms done first. The food is sub par and very expensive. A burger with chips in Champions Bar is close to $9 without the 20% added for gratuity on everything. Once again you can get good service or bad but regardless you are forced to pay 20%. The front desk was managed by 2 people max at busy times and they really could not multi task very well. The resort gets a ton of conventions and can make your stay taxing at times. The staff really tries to do their best, but once again lacks professionalism for the type of resort. Overall, for the price of the Golf Spa package which includes a round of golf (blue and white $85 surcharge), full breakfast, and a room you can't beat it. Great if your are going with a group or couple. Dinner's are worth venturing to downtown Miami.
