The Bottom Line: Dove has definitely taken the beauty section in the grocery store up a notch, but I still fantasize about the expensive washes I once owned.
meagandowney's Full Review: Dove Cream Oil Body Wash, Cherry Blossom & Almond ...
Several months ago, I tried another Cream Oil Body Wash by Dove and loved the scent, moisturization and lather but hated the packaging. Dove seems to have rectified that issue with the Cherry Blossom and Almond Creamy Body Wash, and it's easy to find and afford compared to high-end body washes.
If I had my druthers, I'd buy all of my body washes at pricey stores like Sephora and Macy's, but I have a child and work for a nonprofit so I have to fantasize about Philosophy's Senorita Margherita while using Dove. Value for the dollar is important to me as is spending less money on gas running back and forth to the grocery store, so I was pleased to find Dove's Cream Oil Body Wash in a favorite scent at $4.99 for 19.4 fluid ounces on a recent trip. I decided to give the creamy oil body wash a try again since the package design seemed to have improved. The last bottle was designed such that the thick, rich formula couldn't be squeezed from the bottle once I was three-quarters through the bottle, but the neck on this package is wider, as is the hole that allows the product to be dispensed.
I love the fact that the pink lotion-like formula is easy to work up into a white, moisturizing lather and that the bathroom fills up almost immediately with a pretty cherry scent. I don't like the fact that smell left on my skin is slightly off and that it's loaded with fragrance and chemicals. My standard for cherry almond scents was set high by an Aveda hair care product I purchased years ago, and nothing else lives up to those expectations. Dove doesn't make any claims that the wash is derived from natural ingredients, but it's just quite a different feel from the last body wash I bought from JASON. That product was a bit more costly, but it didn't leave my skin feeling itchy like this wash from Dove does.
Some users will hate the thick, lotion-like formula because they won't feel clean after use. My experience is that it washes completely away (though there is a bit of greasy residue left in the tub) and I can get by without using a lotion after showering in the summer months.
The upside-down bottle is sturdy and attractive in the shower, but I shudder to think how long it will sit in a landfill. I just squeeze about a dollar-length ribbon onto my pouf and that generates enough lather to wash my entire body and shave without using my shaving cream.
Obviously, I've been spoiled by buying natural beauty products at grocery stores that sell organic foods. Since I've cut back on the expensive grocery store trips as well as those to Sephora and the like, my attitude towards my beauty products has soured. Most users will find Dove's Creamy Oil Body Wash to be a nice alternative to cheaper brands, but it's still no substitute for more expensive ones. I would not recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin, but if you're just looking for a little bit of affordable luxury in the shower, Dove will deliver.
