| SHeineman's Full Review: Dove Exfoliating Moisturizing Body Wash |
A friend of mine gave me a Christmas package with several great beauty items. One of things she included was a Dove Exfoliating Bar. I tried it and liked how it performed but had one big problem. It smelled like Dove soap, and I hate the smell of Dove Soap! When I saw that Dove also had an Exfoliating Body Wash and of course after taking a big sniff to check the scent, I picked up a bottle to try. I've been pretty pleased with it so far!
The Scent
Let's get this out of the way, since scent is the #1 reason I am turned off of Dove soap. This has a fresh, clean, sweet scent that I like. It's not the type of scent I'd choose to wear in a perfume or lotion but since this doesn't last for more than a few minutes out of the shower, I like it.
The Product
Dove claims this as body wash that exfoliates but that is gentle enough for everyday use. The skin on my body isn't sensitive in the least so I'm not the best judge of this feature but I did find it quite gentle. I'm used to using rougher sugar and salt scrubs. The reason for the gentleness is that the exfoliants (technical term: scrubbies) are small and rounded. The man made particles are more gentle than a natural exfoliant like the salt. There are a lot of the little blue suckers though, so it is effective. However, a salt or sugar scrub is going to be much better for more exfoliation.
Dove suggests using on a pouf but for more of a scrub, using it directly on your skin. I've done both, and both work. You do feel more of the scrubbies by using it without the pouf. I prefer to use the pouf though because I like all the lather. A little squeezed out goes a long way because the product is thick and creamy. It also forms a really nice lather. I do like to really slather it on thick though. It's inexpensive enough that I can do that without feeling guilty!
When I get out of the shower, my skin feels nice and soft. My skin on my body isn't dry but this makes it feel nice and moisturized. I can easily skip lotion after using this but I can easily skip lotion after any good shower product! My skin does usually feel better after using a regular salt or sugar scrub but that's likely due as much to the usual oils they contain as it is to the harsher exfoliation. In spite of a couple of oils in the ingredient list (sunflower seed oil and soybean oil), I've had no breakout issues (I'm prone to breakouts on my chest, with some moisturizing body washes).
While the cleanser itself rinses cleanly, those blue scrubbies don't do quite as well. I have to really rinse well to make sure that I don't have any left on my body. And after my shower, I will continue to find several of the little blue scrubbies all over my shower. It's not bad enough to not use this but I wish they rinsed their way right down the drain!
Price
I paid about $5 for a 12 oz bottle at Walgreens. There's a bigger sized bottle for not much more but I stuck with the smaller one to test it. It's a good price for a nice product!
