Pros: Soothes severely dry, peeling, and/or chapped lips.
Cons: Expensive in price; limited availability.
Back in the spring of this year, I began taking generic Accutane (called Amnesteem) as my oily, acne prone skin had stopped responding to over-the-counter topical medications. One of the more irritating and downright painful side effects of this prescription drug is dry, chapped, and even peeling lips. So to help offer some relief, my dermatologist recommended this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm as it was especially designed for Accutane patients like myself. He sold it in his office for a rather expensive $8.00 per tube, but out of desperation I was ready to give it a try. And just after a few applications, I noticed my lips were already looking and feeling MUCH better! Read on to find out more about this highly recommended lip care choice.
~~~The Lip Balm~~~
According to website advertising, this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm was specifically designed by a dermatologist to give relief to patients with severely chapped lips. Dr. Daniel Viders is a board certified dermatologist in Central Massachusetts. After treating literally thousands of patients with severe chapped lips, he developed the only truly hypoallergenic lip balm with 1% hydrocortisone - CortiBalm. This lip balm is perfect for acne and psoriasis patients currently taking Accutane, Amnesteem or Soriatane. It is also great for severe chapped lips due to sun, wind, cold or cosmetics. The main ingredient (a topical steroid) in the 1% over-the-counter non-irritating strength helps decrease inflammation, which is 100% Medicated, 100% Mild, and 100% Guaranteed according to the product advertising. So when dry lips are a problem, let this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm rescue sensitive skin and provide the soothing relief your lips crave.
~~~Packaging, Price, & Availability~~~
Each small 0.14 oz white and blue tube of this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm may be purchased through your dermatologist's office or online/via telephone (see the end of this review for the URL and/or telephone number) for around $8.00. It comes packaged just like any other lip balm with a pull off white cap that covers the open product. Just twist the other end to expose more lip balm as needed, which is pale yellow in color and fragrance free. There's no unpleasant taste, and the thick yet somewhat greasy product glides on easily. Worn alone or under your favorite lipstick or gloss, this lip balm is surprising long lasting: even for people like me that are constantly drinking and/or licking my lips all day long! So while $8 might seem like alot to spend initially, just remember that this is no ordinary lip balm. Say goodbye to severely chapped and/or peeling lips after just a few applications of this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm.
~~~Indications for Use~~~
The directions for use found on the side of each tube of this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm read as follows: For itching and inflammation due to dry skin, sunburn, or cosmetics. Before I began using this lip balm, my lips were chapped, peeling, and looked horrible (not to mention they just plain hurt!). With the first soothing application, I felt immediate relief. Then after using this product 3 to 4 times daily for a few days, I began noticing a great improvement in the appearance of my lips as they were no longer peeling like before. But to maintain the results, I now continue to use this lip balm a few times a day as the peeling/chapping came right back when I stopped using this Dr. Dan's Medicated Lip Balm for a day or two. So for as long as I continue to take Amnesteem as directed by my dermatologist, you can bet I'll have a tube of this effective lip balm nearby!
