| melissasrn's Full Review: Dr. Pepper - Diet 20 Floz |
I have been drinking diet soda almost as long as I’ve been married (and that’s a LONG time, folks!). Diet Pepsi or Diet Rite were two of my original favorites (Diet Coke tastes as flat as Micheal Phelp’s chest!), but once I discovered Diet Dr. Pepper, I have found my drink of choice. The commercials always state that it tastes just as good as regular Dr. Pepper, and I can certainly agree with that. Yes, drinking diet cola is an acquired taste in the beginning, but once you make the switch, regular sodas taste like you are drinking pure syrup! Blech. Way too sweet. Read on to find out more about that hands down best soft drink ever created in my opinion.
~~~The Diet Soda~~~
Whether you call it pop, soda, or even “dope” if you are from the South, nothing tastes better than a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper upon arising. I’m not a coffee drinker at all but still require my caffeine to function most days, so this is my vice of choice. There is absolutely no nutritional value to this soft drink artificially sweetened with aspartame, but that also means it contains zero calories, zero fat, and zero carbs at the same time (and only 35mg of sodium per 1 cup/240ml serving). Why bother when water is so much better for you? I do try and drink several glasses of water throughout the day as well, but a nice, tall glass of Diet Dr. Pepper is my own special treat to myself. It’s marketed with the Coke products in my part of the country, but I’ve noticed it’s linked with Pepsi in Florida when placed on sale.
~~~My Experience~~~
Diet Dr. Pepper is one of the most “fizziest” (carbonated) soft drinks around , so if you don’t like that burn you get when swallowing a freshly opened soda, then this one is not for you. There’s no nasty aftertaste, so this is one of the best choices for success when switching from regular to diet to save on calories and/or reduce sugar consumption. I rarely drink my calories as I’d much rather eat them instead. Some suggest that diet sodas actually increase your cravings for sugar and may contribute to obesity, but I refuse to drink hundreds of calories of sugar every day just to get my caffeine fix! A 2 liter bottle costs around $1.50, the 12-pack cans are $3.99, and a 6 pack of the 20 ounce bottles is about the same. Of course I try and take advantage of sales to keep from paying full price. And when I’m desperate, Diet Dr. Thunder (the Wal-Mart brand) is a much less expensive substitute and tastes almost the same.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
There’s also a caffeine-free version, but I prefer my Diet Dr. Pepper with the eye-opening stimulant. Even my husband will drink this diet soda over any of the others. It’s a highly recommended favorite and easily gets five stars from me! Drink up….
