Pros: Interesting flavor; Refreshing; Tastes very much like the original
Sugary soft drinks are loaded with empty calories and since they are so tasty and so easy to consume in large volume, the calories can stack up quickly. This is why so many people drink diet sodas as an alternative and one good- tasting option is Diet Dr. Pepper.
Soft Drink Facts and Figures:
Diet Dr. Pepper is a dark- brown colored soda with an appearance that is about the same as that of most colas. The scent is like that of sweet candy- not any particular fruit flavor of candy, but like a mixture of fruit combined with hints of root beer and cream soda.
Diet Dr. Pepper features a taste that is like a combination of different flavors, including some vanilla, nutmeg, root beer, and a dash of cola. The flavor, like the aroma, reminds me of candy and it is very different from other soft drinks.
Diet Dr. Pepper is made using carbonated water, caramel coloring, Aspartame, phosphoric acid, natural and artificial flavors, sodium benzoate, and caffeine.
A 12 oz, serving of Diet Dr. Pepper contains the following:
Total fat: 0g
Total carbs: 0g
There are also 41 mg of caffeine in each 12 oz. serving.
My Drinking Experience:
Diet Dr. Pepper is one of my go- to brands of diet soft drink and a brand I frequently reach for when I get tired of the usual cola and want something a little different. It has no calories and so it affords the consumer an almost guilt- free drinking pleasure.
Diet Dr. Pepper, much like its parent brand, has a unique flavor that is difficult to describe. Listening to other people try to find the right adjectives to evaluate the taste is interesting because everyone seems to have their own way to describe the taste. As I stated above, it is candy- like and it seems like a plethora of different soft drink flavors combined into one. There is no other national soft drink brand that tastes quite like it and I know many who crave the flavor so much they will not accept any substitute, including most colas.
Some diet soft drinks have flavors different from their parent brand, mainly due to the use of slightly different ingredients. But Diet Dr. Pepper actually tastes very close to regular Dr. Pepper- so much so that many consumers would not even know they were drinking diet if the label didn’t tell them so. This is one of Diet Dr. Pepper’s main appeals. I like that it tastes so similar to the original because it serves as a good substitute without all of that sugar. With Diet Dr. Pepper in my glass, I feel like I am drinking a sugar- enhanced beverage minus the calories.
I described Diet Dr. Pepper earlier as an almost guilt free drinking pleasure and I said that because of one thing: Aspartame. We have all heard the controversy surrounding Aspartame and some are very worried about consuming anything that contains this artificial sweetener. My feeling on Aspartame is simple. I try to avoid it, but that doesn’t mean I plan to eliminate it. The key is to keep it under control. Would I drink five cans of Diet Dr. Pepper or other diet soft drink every day? No, I would not because that would be far too much Aspartame and other artificial ingredients. But I don’t see any problem with consuming a few cans per week.
Diet Dr. Pepper has a one of a kind taste and due to the popularity of the Dr. Pepper brand, some store brands and others have tried to copy Diet Dr. Pepper’s taste. These imitation versions do, indeed, taste similar to the Dr. Pepper brand and some can pass as a close substitute, but none are quite as good as the actual Diet Dr. Pepper product.
Diet Dr. Pepper is a tasty diet soft drink and one of my favorites in the calorie- free category. It does taste very much like regular Dr. Pepper, and that is good news for those who want the diet version of the soda they love to taste like the original. The Aspartame is a concern, but as long as you keep the consumption under control and don’t overdo it, you should be fine. The unique flavor, great refreshment, and other qualities make this one of the better diet soft drinks on the market.
