Pros: Soft, easy to trim to size, and good vibration control
Cons: A little pricey, tough to get into the package!
Once again, I've bought a product and THEN read the reviews...I'll never learn...
Anyway, I've read what other have to say about these insoles and frankly no one is very happy with them. However, I am. I bought them for a different reason than the others and I am happy with the results.
You see, I ride a motorcycle. I ride a LOT. I ride far and wide and you know what? Motorcycles vibrate. And the roads here in Maine are not all that great so I feel each and every bump through the metal and rubber foot pegs on my bike.
My first thought was to buy new pegs for my bike, but frankly, they are all metal and rubber so I don't see where there is a lot to be gained there. I have a pair of thick soled, leather boots that I wear consistently when I ride and the rubber soles on the boots help somewhat, but I still feel a lot of vibration when I ride.
This summer, things got even worse. My job moved 79 miles away so I ride about 3 hours a day to and from work. By the time I arrive, I feel like my blood is probably foamy inside from all the vibration.
So, I bought these insoles, hoping the gel would absorb some of the shock. Also, when I wear those boots to ride, I end up wearing them all day so I'd prefer if there were a tad more comfortable.
Did I get what I came for? Absolutely. No, I'm not walking on air and they aren't the most wonderful thing since sliced bread, but they sure did ease the daily vibration I was suffering from.
My ride today was the best one yet. For the first time, my toes didn't tingle when I got to work. The gel insoles did a wonderful job of absorbing the shock and vibration of riding a motorcycle over mediocre roads.
And...when I got to work, I was able to walk around all day without a problem. My boots were not uncomfortable, but they were not meant for all day walking...they are meant for riding. Now, I can ride to work, wear the boots all day in comfort, and ride home, all without torturing my feet.
I do have to agree with Jo that the plastic packaging is some of the thickest, stubbornest stuff on the planet. They should make prisons out of that stuff! It's horrendous to get into!
Once I finally made it into the package, I had no trouble trimming the insoles to fit my boots. I did it right there in the store! I rode my motorcycle to the drug store, bought these things, and inserted them on the spot. I am a true size 8 and I boldly trimmed right on the "8" line. They fit perfectly. Getting them into the boots was a bit of a challenge, but once I did, all was well.
I have no problem with slippage now that they are in place in my boots and since I wear one pair of boots all the time for riding, I don't have any issue with transfering the insoles from shoe to shoe.
The soft suede top is very comfortable to my feet and the gel is very cushy. It feels "different" walking on the gel, but it didn't take long to get used to. I never wear my boots without socks so I can't comment on how the insoles would feel to the bare foot.
Overall, I am satisfied that these insoles do what I wanted them to do. I got them on sale so I only paid $9 for them.
Given the other reviews, I don't recommend them to everyone, but if you ride a motorcycle or have other need to reduce vibration to your feet, these are a good insulator.
