Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
I was surely disappointed in this movie for many reasons. First of all the previews on television showed all of the best parts. The movie failed to add anything better then the preview had shown to me on television. I watched it on the big screen at our local theater. They get movies a while after major theaters, and for this reason it is only $1.75 to see the movie there. The way I saw it, they should have paid me to watch it. I was expecting a horror movie, some thing with at least a few scary parts. This was certainly lacking. I won't say it did not have any scary parts in it that would make you jump, but they were few and far between. The ending was just stupid as far as I see it. If you do not want to know the ending please read no further. This review has just got to show the ending. Because to me that was the worst part.
Who acts in this movie? Got any information?
Alison Lohman, Justin Long, David Paymer, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, Adrianna Barazza and many more actors and actresses play roles in this movie. This movie has too many extras and small part actors and actresses to list them all. The release date was may of 2009. It was both written and directed by Sam Raimi. This is supposed to be of Horror genre. The movie is 99 minutes long in run time.
Can you tell me the plot and more about the movie?
Sure can. The movie plot is about Christine Brown, a loan officer at a bank who refuses to give any slack to Silvia Ganush an old nasty woman. She claims that she is ordered by her manager to evict the woman from her home of 30 years after the woman can not pay the money that she owes. But in all honesty, Christine's manager told her to make the choice, and she made this choice to evict Silvia because she thought it would win her the assistant managers position.
After leaving work, Christine Brown is attacked at her car by Silvia Ganush. She fights her and manages to get her off of her but not before Silvia rips a button off of Christine's coat and curses it. The curse being that Christine Brown would be dragged to hell after many misfortunes and sacrifices. Christine starts to see and hear things that are not normal. She sees things and experiences things that are violent in nature and then they just disappear and nothing was really there.
There is also a point when she is at her boyfriend's house for dinner with his parents. There she sees Silvia's eye in her cake and stabs it with her fork. Blood gushes from it, but no one else seems to see this. Then she begins to choke on some thing and out pops a fly that had entered through her nose the night before. Then the parents of her boyfriend realize flies are in the cake. Her behavior becomes irrational and she thinks Silvia is lurking behind a door, she throws her glass at the door and then calmly comes down to realize that her boyfriends parents are staring at her in dismay. Now she says she had better leave and the boy friend's parents agree.
There are many parts lost in between this review. I just don't want to reveal every detail, about the movie. But through out the movie you will most likely jump when Silvia, the old woman who we later find out has died shows up in various places and attacks the girl in various ways. Her face alone will make you jump and she is one nasty, slime filled old lady.
Christine befriends a psychic. This man helps her in different way to try to rid her of this curse. He tells her to make a sacrifice on an animal. She does, although you won't believe what she picks. I will leave that a secret. This does not work. The demons are after her to drag her to hell. There is an older woman who we first saw as a young woman watch her brother be dragged to hell. She has spent her whole life since trying to get a chance to demolish this demon and now that the psychic has brought Christine to her they can summon it together. They bring a goat, this is for the demon to take form in. That part is just stupid. The demon will take turns entering most of their bodies in trying to get Christina. The woman mumbles some thing I have no idea what and the demon disappears. The woman takes a heart attack and dies.
Just when Christine thinks that it is all over. That the woman has helped her. The psychic tells her that she got rid of it for now, but the demon will be back for her if she does not give the cursed button to some one else. Christine is distraught but on the way home in her boyfriends car she holds the envelope with the button. As they drive the old woman appears before them and the nearly hit her, upon getting closer it is not her though. Christine just sees the man as Silvia. When they stopped to avoid hitting the person the envelope flew out of Christine's hand. She found the envelope amongst papers in her boyfriends car and was a little more at ease.
Christine goes to a small coffee shop place. Here she sits and watches for some one to give the button to. Shje even calls a co worker who stole her promotion amongst other things. But ultimately no one can be chosen. These people are likes her, they have feelings and families. She can't do it. She has an idea though. She goes back to the psychic. He tells her that her idea to give the cursed button back to Silvia even though she is dead is a great idea.
This is where I got aggravated with the movie the most lol. Christine of course digs up Silvia's grave. Then she fights her dead body as the dead body grabs her hair and pulls her in to the grave further. The rain starts to fall and the mud slides in and she nearly drowns. She manages to get up and shoves the envelope in to the mouth of Silvia telling her it is her gift and a bunch of other stuff I am not allowed to type out on here.
The next scene you see is Christine getting her promotion finally. She is going on a trip with her boyfriend and stops to buy a coat. Throwing the coat with the cursed button away. Her boyfriend meets her near the train. She asks him if he likes the coat. He says he does and asks her what happened to the old one. She said she never wants to see it again. He tells her that is too bad because he found the envelope with the button to the coat in his car. She had taken the wrong envelope! Now she backs away while glaring at the button in fear. She falls in to the train track and the train is just about to hit her when demon hands drag her to hell from below. The boyfriend just stares at the button and the credits roll. Blah.
Are there cool sound effects? Hows the video?
I will say that there are good sound effects. Some that will make you jump, others that just suit the situation at the time. The video is great. The movie was theater played but there was no lagging or skipping so it was good.
What about the acting it's self?
The dead old lady played the best part, so I guess that does not say much for the rest of the characters. The character of Christine was pretty bland and she over acted at some moments. She did not act like some one who was about to be dragged to hell. She acted more like she was the one watching the movie and waiting for the next part, if that makes much sense.
Do you recommend it?
That depends. If your looking for a movie with a few suspencful moments and a some what silly far out there kind of plot. Sure give the movie a look see. However, on the same token. If your looking for a horror movie..which I was. This is not a movie that will interest you very much. It is pretty predictable and some one boring. I got up to get food and drinks a few times because I didn't care if I missed a moment or two. It didn't hold my attention very well at all. My wife says the same. We like hard core scary movies. This was supposed to be one and was shown to be one in the previews. The preview was a deceiving one. I didn't like the movie, but to each his own.
