Pros:Great design, awesome helmet, nice axe, cool sword.
Cons:When are they going to release more of these!!!
The Bottom Line: Looking to add a dark element to your Playmobil Castle? Need someone to slay the dragon? This figure is a great pick!
Its no secret that I love medieval things; from my ongoing Lego castle to other Playmobil dragon fighters - anything thats even remotely connected to medieval times usually gets purchased when I come across it. Since its been a while since Playmobil released new figures in their Pals line I was jumping for joy when I got the email that they finally added new ones. I was a little disappointed that there were only a handful of them at the site but I guess five or six is better than none at all. What I really love about this little guy is the detail that was added to him; basically hes the same type of warrior that theyve already released with the Special series but hes got a lot more detail to him, several cool weapons and armor. The Special and Pals line help collectors and lovers of Playmobil get their hands on some rather unique figures; this is the same series that introduced up to the nun, sea robber and female pirate!
Playmobil Dragon Warrior
One of the coolest things about this figure are the colors that were picked the contrast of red and black is always a classic scheme for the bad guys so he looks pretty freakin sweet. The helmet is one of the first things that catch your eye; the horns on the top give him a true sinister look but its the small red triangles that line the sides of it that really make him look like a meanie. Sure he has a smile on his face but he is also carrying an axe and a sword so take that into consideration when you check him out. The armor is a very nice touch but not as nice as the detail to his arms. Unlike most of the other dragon fighters and castle figures hes got accents to his arms. When I first saw this in person the first thing that came to mind was Gary Oldmans outfit in Dracula before he actually turned into Dracula. This is something that you really have to see up close to appreciate.
The gold belt that the figure is wearing does absolutely nothing for him so that was the first thing to go. I mean, the armor and weapons are all gray / silver, the uniform is black and red so why give him a gold belt? And its not even a nice gold, its that tacky cheesy cheap plastic stuff. Personally he looks a lot better without the belt but thats just my opinion, you might see it on him and really like the way that it looks. Now, one thing that you cant see or at least appreciate from what you see at the website or on the photo here is the dragon stenciled on his chest. Its a little hard to make out when he has the helmet on because it is a little on the large side but it really adds a lot to the feel of the uniform. Another perk is that the figure has red hands not the usual flesh tone ones that come with most figures. This ties in with the uniform and the design on his chest.
The figure can handle either of the weapons that come in the set but if you have him holding both of them at the same time it does make him tip over if theres any vibration or movement. Likewise, if you have him holding the axe in the air or over his head it makes him a little unstable. A nice trick to solve this is to take some poster putty, roll off a few small balls and press it onto his feet. This stuff wont harm the figure in any way and can be removed in a few seconds. I am really hoping that Playmobil adds some more figures like this to their Pals line because this is a huge improvement over the older ones thats not to say that theres anything wrong with them but they are a little on the plain side compared to this guy.
The Bottom Line
if you are interested in getting this figure you can find him at the Playmobil Online Store for $2.99 but if you can hold out and resist the temptation, chances are you will be able to pick him up at your local Target store in a month or so but for a dollar less. That might not sound like a big deal but if you are looking to get ten figures that means you will be saving ten bucks. If you are like me then youll turn right around and get five more figures with the money that you saved but hey, its sort of like getting them free. I am completely happy with this figure and highly recommend him to anyone that collects Playmobil, has a love of all thing medieval or just wants something dark and evil looking on their desk or computer monitor.
As always, thanks for the read!
