Drawn Together Movie: The Movie (2010) Directed by Greg Franklin Written by series creators Dave Jeser and Matthew Silverstein.

"What the (unbleeped)!"

One of my favorite guilty pleasures was Drawn Together, the first animated reality television show.  I am not fond of reality TV, but this show put together iconic characters from the world of animation and let it fly like the Celebrity Has Been shows.

The cast included, Captain Hero (Jess Harnell) representing the spandex and capes crowd, Xandir P. Whifflebottom, (Jack Plotnik) the hero of a video game, and a gayer elf you will not find, Princess Clara who combines the worst characteristics of a Disney Princess and the Tea Bagger Party.  Her voice, Tara Strong also does the voice for Toot Braunstein, a Betty Boop gone to seed.  Ling Ling (Abbey McBride) is a Pikachu rip off battle monster, and Wooldoor Sockbat (James Arnold Taylor) is a weird little fellow in the mold of the bastard lovechild of Ren&Stimpy and Sponge Bob Square Pants.  Spanky Ham is the thinly disguised persona of Adam Carolla, and is an internet download pig.  Finally, Foxxy Love (Cree Summer) is a mystery solving musician ala Josey and the Pussycats meet Heidi Fleiss.  With this widely diverse cast, the show can make fun of Blacks, Whites, Asians, Fat people, gays, the mentally retarded, Muslims, Jews, the Christian fringe, bulimics, the politically correct, alcoholics, welfare mothers, sluts, nerds, geeks, jocks, and necrophiliacs...basically everyone.  And it does.

It is crude, crass, silly, pointless, and vulgar, appeals to the lowest common denominator, and has no social value what so ever.  I adored it!  So of course it was cancelled after three seasons.

Now, in a straight to DVD release, Foxxy Love has a mystery to solve; why can she say (bleep), (Bleep) and (BLEEP!) without getting censored?  (Drawn Together Movie: The Movie may be uncensored, but not this website.) Her investigations lead her to a horrible truth: Drawn Together has been cancelled!  Now, she and her housemates are on a quest to the land of Make-a-Point to see if being socially relevant could get them back on the air.  If they don't, they will be erased by the cartoon terminator; I.S.R.A.E.L. (voiced by Family Guys Seth McFarland!).

Like the movie Serenity tried to give closure to the tragically short lived (and fricking brilliant) Firefly, so too does this movie try to tie up the loose ends, and at the same time, make a Hail Mary pass to get back on the air.  How did they do?

Well, Drawn Together was a show famous for pushing the envelope of what you could get away with on television.  It's third season DVD was uncensored (and a total hoot!).  But what will these people do when there is no envelope?  Much like a strict Mormon who goes away to college, probably more than is good for them.  Let me just sum it up this way.  3D Sex Scene.  3D glasses not included.  Is it too much?  Yes.  Does it go too far? Yes.  Is it destroying the moral and mental fabric of America?  Definitely.  Part of the fun of the show was that teetering on the brink of going over the line.  Here, they have crossed the line, crushed the line, and defecated on the line.

Will this be enough to get them back on the air?  Doubtful.  But who knows?  Family Guy was doomed to oblivion, but resurrected from cancellation hell by it's success on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.  If you have ever watched Southpark and thought, this just isn't outrageous enough, then this movie is for you.
