gardengnome's Full Review: Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, Sandy Beige Sold As...
I like to keep my make-up to a minimum, using only high SPF sunblock most days. There are times when a little extra is nice to give a bit more polished look. Over the years I have tried several kinds of liquid foundations but was never happy with them. I finally resorted to using a powdered foundation over sunblock but again did not get the results I wanted.
What I wanted: I really wanted a foundation that felt light, wasn't greasy, too dry or pasty looking. I wanted something that was easy to apply. I also wanted something that would even out any blotchiness.
What I bought: I bought one .64 oz/18 g jar of Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, Sandy Beige made by Maybelline LLC.
Why I bought: My purchase was directly influenced by advertising. I have used Mabyelline products in the past so that also influenced my purchase.
The productL The mousse foundation comes in a small (about 2 inch diameter, 1 inch tall) glass jar. The plastic lid is the colour of the mouse and screws on to cover the jar almost half way. When looked at from the side the lid appears to curve up in the centre but turning the jar 90 degrees and the lid appears to curve down. The name of the product is on a clear sticker in black font in various sizes with the exception of the word "dream" and a small circle beside the tone in white. The bottom of the jar has a white sticker with small black font that lists the ingredients, weight, maker and bar code.
The foundation has a thick, whipped, creamy texture similar to jello whipped with whip cream that holds its shape when cut. A light touch to the surface of the foundation gives just under firm resistance. The foundation will transfer to your fingertip with just a light touch. It does have a very slight, non-offensive scent. There is a wide range of colours available and I see no reason why you couldn't mix two or more colours for a customized colour match to your skin tone.
Performance: The foundation goes on smoothly with fingertips or make-up sponge and blends nicely. It really does apply like a liquid but feels like a powder even when applying. This foundation evens out skin tones while feeling and looking without looking heavy and cakey. It blends nicely as well. I find the foundation applies easily over my SPF sunblock. It does take a little more smoothing when applied directly to dry skin.
Like many make-up products this foundation will rub off onto clothing but to a lesser degree. It is obviously most noticeable on light coloured clothing. So it is important to apply this foundation after you have dressed if you are wearing a piece of clothing that pulls over the head. The foundation will also rub off onto the inside of hats. It will also transfer onto facial tissue (sneezing, etc). It does not run or sag if sweating. I think the rub off factor is normal to most make-up products and is less than some. The primary reason for rub off for me is I tend to forget I have the foundation on so will pull a top over my head when undressing. I have not had this product permanently stain any clothing due to the rub off. My clothes are washed in a front loading washer using HE detergent and no additional stain removers.
I really like this foundation. My normal use is one application over my sunblock only on days that decide to wear make-up. This tends to be when we are going out or when on vacation. So the maximum amount I use this product in a month would be 10 consecutive days with normal use of 2 to 3 times per week. I've had no skin irritation while using this product. The foundation is easily removed using a facial wash product or plain soap and water.
