Dress Up Kayla is one of the Mattel Kelly dolls that we recently put into storage versus getting rid of it. There was a phase of time that my youngest was a large Kelly doll fan. Recently she got rid of numerous Barbie types of play items, but kept her (and my) favorites. The original purchase price was approximately $5., very affordable. Recommended for ages 3 and up, this doll has small pieces which might present a choking hazard to younger children.

In my view this dress up themed doll is adorable. As indicative by the product title, this particular Kelly brand doll offers the appearance of being dressed up, not in her own Sunday best… rather it looks as though she is in big sisters accessories. Kayla arrives wearing a pink, prom or other formal appropriate dress. Additionally she has a string of pearls, a boa, and shoes. The pink shoes are too big, thus adding to the overall presentation that she borrowed from Barbie. Adding to the --preschooler dressed herself up-- appearance, this charming Kelly doll has an extreme hairdo. Mattel did such a splendid job on the hair, that years later, the hair still feels crusty.

My youngest daughter actually received Dress Up Kayla from her older sister. It just so happens that my oldest took such good care of her toys that they usually looked new when she handed them on to her sis. When that occurs with a Mattel Barbie line of toy, you know that the durability is worthy of mention.

I have to admit that I am a little saddened that this charming little doll is now in storage, as it reminds me of the dress up sessions my girls took part in at a much younger age. In fact I have a picture of my youngest daughter dressed up in a similar dress, wearing a strand of pearls, and sporting a funked up hairdo. And she is holding Dress Up Kayla. Aw memories!
