| ed_grover's Full Review: Drive Medical Deluxe Hand Held Shower Massager |
When I came home from my stay at the hospital last December, I returned satisfied with the knowledge that I qualified for a bunch of help from the Milwaukee County Department on Aging and their supportive agencies. After what seemed like a series of interminable interviews, I was informed that I would be getting a retro-fitted bathroom complete with two grab bars for the tub, a shower chair, and a new DMI Deluxe Hand-Held Shower Massager made by Duro Med Industries. The agency didn't seem to approve of the one I had from Moen (more on that later). I was also to get a support frame that fits around the toilet. I'd have preferred something in the style of The Sun King rather than "moderne" spun aluminum tubing. A friend calls the contraption "the help me up . . . or down," as the case may be.
A week later a man arrived to install all this stuff. I looked at the work copy he gave me and was amazed at the costs of the materials and labor. I think that somebody's got a corner on the market in this area as far as I'm concerned. It only took him an hour and when he got around to the showerhead, he sneered and said that the one that I was getting was much better. He said it was recommended by all the handicapped agencies. Well, I'm here to tell you it's not as hot as recommended.
The accompanying information that I saved from the packaging tells me that this shower massager has a 360 degree rotator joint that eliminates shower hose twisting. That may well be the best feature if this item. The text says It offers "comfort and convenience, is easy to install and comes with flexible 60" (fake) chrome hose". It can be used as stationary showerhead or as a hand-held implement. It may just be the way it was hooked up in my bathroom, but it is more hand-held that stationary because it keeps falling out of its bracket. I was warned (the second time this happened) to be careful because it wasn't chrome, but genuine plastic and could break. That was a joy to hear and every time it falls and clanks against the side of the tub I expect it to shatter. This situation isn't going to last too much longer anyway.
As far as relieving tension . . . it may be just the thing for some very frail elderly person who needs help with their showering, but as long as I can take care of myself I prefer a bit more shower power and a bit more pizzazz! The three-speed shower selection is barely discernible. There is no pressure or notable change in shower selection. I don't consider it deluxe at all. Deluxe would have had a trigger release or something to stop the water, and again I'm not happy with the pressure or the three (supposed) settings for the massager. We are supposed to get a "pulsating massage, a full body spray with pulsating massage," and a "full body spray." To me they're all the same and there's no pulsating to be found at all.
Illona Trailer, my friend from Central Wisconsin hated it and said it was just adequate at its best. She got on her cell phone and called Curtis Ray to come and reinstall my Moen Revolution Massaging Showerhead. Curtis Ray walked in sporting a new Packer's jacket and got to work with his big socket wrench to put my showering area back in order. All I can say is I'm a "happy camper" as Illona phrases it.
Many thanks to Shantell575 for getting this product listed for me in such short order.
