marbledj's Full Review: Dual Electronics XHD7720 Car CD/ MP3 Player
I bought this because it is probably the only in-dash unit with built in Bluetooth, HD receiver, and MP3/IPOD connections. These features are great.
However, the display is not readable in bright sunlight, and is barely readable on a cloudy day. My 2005 Honda Civic mounts the radio up high in the dashboard, where the sun shines on the display. The stock Honda radio had a clearly visible display under all conditions. The Dual display works fine at night, but may as well be blank on a sunny day. I cannot tell what time it is, what station I am on, or what mode the system is in. It would probably be OK if it were mounted lower in the dashboard, so the driver would look down at the display and the sun would not shine directly at it.
Also the FM reception is not nearly as good as the stock Honda radio. When I tune to a weaker station I get a lot of squeeling and hissing in city or hilly areas due to interference from stronger stations. My Honda Civic has the antenna integrated into the rear window. Dual suggests installing a mast antenna to compensate for its poor receiver design. Maybe if you have a mast antenna, you will be satisfied with the receiver?
I have contacted Dual's customer service, but they refuse to do anything to help me. They seem to think there are not enough Honda Civics on the road to make it worth addressing the issues.
I like the features, and have decided to keep the radio, but I am very disappointed in the display and the reception.
