For those using portable laptop devices and needing a wireless signal this item may solve some problems but it is not a complete solution to lack of strong signals pulled in by a WiFi card. Devices marked as wireless-N devices transmit signals four times that of the standard 802.11a/g networks and this tool may provide a solution. The Linksys Wireless Adapter Model: WUSB600N is a Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Adapter that plugs right into your laptop in a very neat way.

According to the propaganda Linksys has on the advertisement for the item the device adds draft 802.11n, 802.11a, 802.11g, and 802.11b wireless networking to your computer. This means little or nothing to me as I am interested in the result of the process. If the item can provide more of what I need, a wider selection of wireless signal, then I am satisfied. I am not a techie nor do I care about the nuts and bolts of setting up a wireless adaptor- I only need the ability to get online for my research and for watching streaming video. After going through the set-up process I can see that this device has plusses and minuses.
Linksys claims that it will provide a beacon for wireless signals that normally will not be seen by your wireless card. This is true. When I plugged in the device, and loaded the software, a whole new list of wireless signals came up for me to see. After connecting to some of them I was able to get a clean signal. However some of the signals were password-protected and I was not able to use them to go online.
There are other issues too. Additionally if you have Windows loaded onto your laptop and the software manages your wireless connection, this will be disabled when you use the Linksys system. The Linksys Wireless Adapter Model WUSB600N comes with a software disc that requires installing for the device to function properly. This overrides any other system that is managing your wireless setup. After you install the Linksys Adapter some of the signals that you may have seen with the Windows-managed wireless connection may disappear altogether due to the different speed of the two programs.
I contacted a techie friend who works in the computer lab of a major college and he informed me that Linksys Wireless Adapter Model: WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Adapter is indeed highly rated and rightly so- it functions as a great alternative to standard wireless cards that may be installed as part of other systems. Also the adapter supports 256-bit wireless encryption ensuring that the data you transmit over your wireless network remains private.
It sports Dual-Band Support - the device can operate on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band.
But the Windows wireless management functions at about the same level for most of us low-brow pedestrians who merely want our e-mails and shopping activities. My own process is results-based and I always seek more choice to utilize to achieve my goals, so I didn’t really see a significant advantage to using the Linksys Wireless Adapter Model: WUSB600N.
The Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N Network Adapter delivers on its promise but the quality of the result may leave you discouraged. Many of the new signals that appeared for me were locked down by the proprietors and I was left scratching my head and muttering colorful epithets because I wasn’t able to ride the wave.
