The dark cloth interior of my Toyota is often coated with fur from two dogs that love their car rides. Both are long-haired, and nary a vacuum, even a powerful commercial one, is able to remove all of the fur. I usually need my handy dandy Evercare Pet Pic-Up rollers to finish off the job. Cleaning up is a tedious and time-consuming activity. Using towels and sheets as seat liners works minimally, and I don’t want to buy expensive seat covers.
Happily, I’ve found the solution in the Duluth Trading Company Deluxe Seat Saver.
Materials and Construction
Though this is advertised primarily as a seat cover for dogs, it can be used to protect the back seat of the car against all dirty passengers. So, if the kids are sweaty and muddy after the soccer game, this would work.
The cover, measuring 5 X 5 feet, adequately covers the back seat of my Toyota. It comes in only one color – burlap (tan).
The cover is reversible, with a lightweight but sturdy vinyl on one side, and a soft polyester fleece on the other. It’s waterproof, so if my dogs have sloshed through puddles or dewy grass, no damage is done to cover or car.
Along one edge of the cover are two adjustable, removable straps. These loop over the back headrests. There are two anchors that can be tucked down into the area where the backrest and seat meet. These keep the cover securely in place on the seat, so that moving dogs will not dislodge it.
The straps are attached by hooks to metal rings. These are made of nickel-plated steel, and are rust-resistant, as is the zipper. Oh yes, can't forget the zipper…
One of the nice features of this cover is the 18-inch double enforced zipper that is placed in the center of the cover. It zips open from either end, allowing seat belts to slip through the cover. Safety is not sacrificed.
An interesting feature of this seat is the ability to turn it into a hammock. There are two more adjustable, removable straps on the bottom edge of the cover. These can be hooked over the front headrests. This provides more area for the dog to lounge.
I’ve used the cover in hammock mode only a few times, so my dogs haven’t quite adjusted to it yet. Pepper likes to hug the back of the seat when he rides, but Kaleb likes to move around a bit. Kaleb is not quite sure of this new-fangled thing, so he’ll need a bit of time to adjust.
Cleaning
The Deluxe Seat Cover is simple to clean.
• Unhook it and shake it off
• Wipe the vinyl side with a damp cloth or sponge
• Use a lint roller or hand vacuum to clean the polyester side – takes less than 2 minutes
This is my kind of product!
Added bonus
The cover folds up neatly when not in use. It comes with a vinyl carrying bag. The folded cover fits snuggly into the bag, and can be stored easily, since it measures about 12 by 18.
When the cover is in use, the bag can be used as a carrying case for other doggie items, such as bowls, toys, leashes, etc. This makes it an overall useful added touch.
Pleased As Can Be
I love the Deluxe Seat Saver. It’s solved the problem of a furry back seat, and I’m not always scrambling to clean the car when I have to transport human passengers. I like all the features, such as the anchors, the seat-belt zipper, the hammock option, and the carrying bag. I’ve seen other pet seat covers, but none with all of these add-ons.
